Yep as Sharon says.  You need to release it to advance or roll the quilt.  I did some adjusting of mine at first without loosening the brake....yikes....what a mess.....the Velcro did move out of place leaving a goopy mess.....I cleaned it with rubbing alcohol I believe...it took a while....then ended up applying a new valcro strip.....good news though....I haven't had to replace it for several years.....I have had to take my Allen wrench and tighten the handle a few times though.....I bought one of those multi sized allen wrenchs that had the same size in it.....I like it better because you have a bigger handle to use when tightening.....

wow.....custom would look great.....give the board a hint on what your skill level is and they might be able to come up with some ideas......I am not at the level of being able to do custom for that quilt yet....I would have to come up with a simple plan.....my normal quilts are "busy" prints so my free hand meander, edge to edge doesn't show the mistakes so much.....

pretty and flowers sure pop!  I have a lap sized raw edged quilt I have been putting off doing wondering if I can do it on my longarm.....it is one of McKenna Ryan's.  Anyone done one of hers on a long arm?  Lin

    HI all,
I actually wish they would have a category for "new quilters and utility quilts".  When I would go to a show, I would feel so in awe of the quilts and quilting that was being done, that I thought I could never, ever, be considered a "real quilter".  Now in my old age.....I have come to terms that what I am is a "utility quilt" quilter......I love making simple quilts, that have a minimum of quilting so they stay soft and cuddly, that folks can throw on the floor, pick up, throw in the washing machine and dryer and wrap up in.....I don't have the patience and talent to make a work of art.....but I still make quilts of "value".  My brother and sister-in-law recently told me that the two flannel throw quilts I made for them had a major problem.....they were going to watch a movie and got comfortable and covered up with the quilts....yeppers….they ended up falling asleep about 30 minutes into the movie....tee hee…..

well.....I was really good at math....got in the 99.6 percentile on one of those test they used to give us....now...mind you...spelling is an entirely different story...all I can remember about that is the "i" is after "e" except after "c" except for sometimes....yah....all spelling is like that for me...flunked out of freshman English twice because we had to write an essay on the spot for the finial and in those days, we could not use a dictionary and spell check was not invented yet.....almost dropped out of college because of this...but hey I got 4 A's, 1 B, and an F the first quarter....and about the same the second quarter and finally passed English 101 during a summer session taking it pass/fail...thank goodness there is not much spelling in quilting!!!!!!

I will be interested in hearing the answers.....Teresa...I was having problems with the like button and I don't know what I did....but I like your post...I have been using mainly OMNI because that what was suggested to me as a beginner....I have been winding my own bobbins and had bad tension with one color on the last quilt that I did...I also ordered some pre-wounds and now have bottomline, so fine, and megnaglide classics that I am going to be trying....I just tried the So fine pre-wounds and they worked well for me with the matching thread (50 weight)....I have been afraid to try the king tut..but I have a good supply of that and YLI cotton also from my old mega-quilter set-up and they worked fine on that when I used the same thread in the bobbin .but from what I learned here, king tut is difficult .......I am thinking I am going to order more pre-wounds...just have to figure out what ones....Lin

I have been struggling to get this quilt done.  I am kicking myself for choosing three different threads.  I love the way they all look, but my goodness, they are tempermental.

My hot pink is bottom line.  It is not acting too badly.
The lime green is Highlights.  OH, I love how it looks, but I really hate fighting with it.
THe white is So fine, which runs fine, but I keep having to change the tension when I change to the white thread.

Another one I love to hate is anything King Tut.  If it is a nice day and relatively warm with low humidity in our house, it runs beautifully. I love the way it looks.  But, if it is the least bit cold or rainy, that thread snarls into birdsnests and leaves loops on the back.

What threads are you favorites?  Most hated?  Adored, but hated at the same time?

    Hi,

RE:Millie has those little wicks that I over-oiled in the beginning, but
Amy at APQS set me straight when I sent her back for a Spa treatment.
My point is there are a lot of different machines with very different
    requirements!

I am a newbie and just have had my Lucey now for a little bit...I am wondering if I am oiling her too much or too little....the lower wick is always fairly wet so far and I have not added any oil to that one...but the top four...I have added as they are not as wet as the lower one....I get a smaller amount of oil on my finger when I test them....so...how do I tell if they are fine or need oil...should they be completely dry before I add?  I did find a spot of oil on my practice piece after I let her sit in one place for a while.....does that mean I oiled too much?  Thanks for any tips.....Lin
