  3. I primarily use ginghers, but with such high recommendations and my scissor fetish I will have to look into these others. I need a good pair for applique too. There is nothing worse than snipping a whole in the backing fabric. Believe me, I have done it. Thanks to all for sharing.
  4. I use Kristina's methodof attaching borders. My quilts for the most part lay flat and come out square.
  5. Can anyone give me tips on doing mitered borders or direct me to a site to help me? I am attempting to put a quilt together with a pieced mitered border and I am having a terrible time. I know there must be an easier way. Your help will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  6. Really cute quilt. A great use of the embroidery machine. I love doing embroidered quilts, but no one ever appreciates the time in takes to do all that embroidery.
  7. Great tip! I will be picking up a couple for my studio. Thanks for shariing.
  8. I think your feathers are perfect. They look really pretty and add so much movement to the quilt. Pat yourself on the back and be proud. Thanks for sharing. This is going into my favorites.

  11. Happy Birthday to you. Happy birthday to you. Happy Birthday sweet Oma, Happy Birthday to you, and mannnny more! I am so sorry about your tooth, hope it will be all better soon, and that your surgery goes well. I hope you have a great time in Tahoe. It sounds like so much fun. I wish I were going with you.

  13. Beautiful quilt!! You did a great job on your first quilt. I never would have attempted a quilt that large when I first started out. I think I did 25 to 30 smaller quilts before I took on the challenge of a king size quilt. Thanks for sharing.
  14. Congratulations on purching a quilting machine, you will love it! I don't think you made a mistake buying a smaller machine to get started with. Like others have said, get to know your machine and enjoy!! When you are ready to upgrade, go for it. You cannot go wrong with an APQS, no matter what model you decide on, new or used. APQS's customer service is the very best you will find. They are always there for us. If you buy a used machine through APQS, you can be assured it has been gone through and is in top notch condition. I bought my Millie with all the bells and whistles and have never regretted it. Now I want to get her outfitted with the Bliss system and know I will be in love all over again. Note: I am 4' 10" and don't have a problem operating my Millie. I used to have a problem reaching from the back of the machine to the front, but my husband built me a platform to stand on and now I am good to go.
  15. Very nice! I love turquoise and brown. It really has the Southwest feel. Your quilting is magnificant and really makes this quilt. Thanks for sharing.
  16. Hi, I am doing the usual Thursday cleaning, clean kitchen, bathrooms, dust, vacuum and laundry. I also have to change sheets on our bed. I usually do that on Friday. We are getting ready for the weekend. We are going to take the kids to Adventure Land in Des Moines Friday and Saturday. After I get my chores done, I am going to work on the dreaded Judy Niemeyer, "Crown of Thorns". I have the body of the quilt done and the pieced borders done. I am going to try to get them on today. I have never disliked piecing a quilt as I do this one. Lots of angles and the border has been a nightmare. I am having trouble with the borders, they just don't want to cooperate. I just can't seem to get my head wrapped around the angles. It will be beautyiful when it is done. I don't think I will be doing any paper piecing for a long, long time!!

  21. Oh Vicki, so sorry. What a mess. I hope your studio dries out fast and you can get back to quilting! You got me thinking, my studio is in the basement too. I had better clean up my studio and get things off the floor. Seems I always have piles of books and magazines on the floor. My batting is stored under my Mille. I also have some baskets with fat quarters, patterns and odds-and-ends stored in them. I guess I never thought about how much damage would be done if my studio flooded. Thanks for sharing.
  22. I love the pebbles. The quilt is very pretty. I can't wait to see more of it when you are done. Thanks for sharing.
  23. I was wondering how many of you have your equipment and studio insured. We recently added on to our home and decided to update our insurance. When the adjuster came out, I took him into my studio to see what would be insured. I was told my home insurance would not cover my studio contents, only the structure. I would have to take out a separate policy or add a writer to my home insurance. It is very expensive. I don't know what to do. Do any of you have insurance on your equipment, supplies or stash? If so, is it separate from your home insurance? Who do you insure with? Thanks in advance for you input. This has me very worried.
  24. How Cute? Very clever idea! Love it! I may have to copy your idea for little ones in my family. I love the clouds too! Thanks for sharing.
  25. I have a Bernina 180 and a 200. I love them both. They are really user friendly. I do a lot of embroidery. The embroidery is really nice on both. The 200 is a lot faster than the 180, but they both stitch out beautifully. I can do monogram, labels and names they both have a large choice of fonts, along with endless designs. I can buy designs on line, save them to a CD and load them right into my embroidery unit. These machines may be available used through a Bernina dealer. My dealer handles used machines and they are covered by a warranty. I also have the a Disney and a Snoopy Brother machines, embroidery only. These both stitch out beautifully. They don't have quite the stitch quality as the Berninas, but are definately more affordable. They are in the 5 to 6 hundred dollar range. These are especially nice if you only need them to embroidery. They can be used for names and monograms, I am not sure they can be programed to do a full label. They both have really cute designs loaded in the machine and more design cards can be purched so you are not limited to Disney or Snoopy.
