Jess that is beautiful! I love your work. I love those stars with the swirl around them. Gorgeous. you'd never know that quilt had any issues with fullness. -
Is the machine slow when you turn it on or does it stay slow after it has warmed up? The #8 screw will adjust the speed at which your needle starts and stops and sometimes it will keep going up and down even after you have hit the control stop, that is when I know I have to make an adjustment. You should look in your manual for the directions on adjusting the #8 screw. Depending on when you got your machine it may be located in a different place than mine. Does the machine stay slow when you try to stith in manual mode? Is it just in SR mode? If it stays slow even after warm up I'd call APQS and Amy or Dawn can trouble shoot it with you. If you don't have thread wrapped around the fly wheel then it has to be something else.

My top two threads are SoFine and Metro thread. For the bobbin I go between bottom line and magnebobbins. -

Legacy batting? Wool batting?
Quilting Heidi replied to Berny's topic in Ask The Expert - Piecing, Batting, Fabric
Debi I use Quilters Dream almost exclusively. I just love how it handles, washes and the customer service can't be beat. I love that I don't have to order huge amounts and I can get what I need quickly. My favorite batt is wool. I also like Dream Puff and dream poly. I'm not a big fan of the 70/30 because it is to heavy for my liking. I have Hobb's 80/20 and use it quite a bit as well. I also have Pellon's 80/20 on a 9 yd bolt. It seems to be a little thinner than Hobbs 80/20 but it quilts up nicely. -

That came out great. I love the minkie back. -
I have the GO BABY and the Studio. This was my thinking on that... 1. I wanted to do a "few" applique type things. Not badly enough to pay upwards of $100 for a die though. 2. The Studio dies are a lot more expensive than the GO dies and they should be because they are heavier and nicer. 3. I wanted to be able to cut at least 10 layers of fabric at a time...the GO just wasn't going to do that for me. It cuts 4-6 I think. Plus it was expensive ($399 at the time). 4. I bought the Studio, which I LOVE for the bulk of my cutting...all my strips and blocks, etc. 5. And when the GO BABY came out I bought it for under $100 then bought some GO applique dies cheaper and on sale online and using coupons at JoAnn's and other places. Therefore, the GO BABY and ALL my dies were cheaper than if I had purchased the GO without any dies or just a couple of the Studio dies. I also bought the adaptor for the Studio so I can use the GO dies or Sizzix dies, etc. if I need or want to. Well that makes perfect sense to me. I think I need to get the adapter and try a Go die. There are a few I'd like but like you not ones I'd use enough to justify the cost. I haven't used many of my studio dies but I haven't had time. My thinking is that I'd buy the dies now while I'm working and then when I retire I'll have what I want!

Nice room Oma and it sure looks like you have enough projects to keep you busy for some time! LOL I see you have Go! dies but you have the studio. Do you have both cutters or do you use your studio to use the Go! dies?

Hitomi I've never seen a bobbin case like that. I don't think I'd use it.

I probably change mine every 3 or 4 quilts. I can hear when my needle is getting dull.

Neline, I found a similar pattern on Ebay. Here is the link. I can't find anything about what happeded to the maker of Chrysalis who was Maria McCormick-Snyder. I did find information that she sued a man who was an engineer and drafted a similar pattern for his wife. She claimed that he saw the quilt at Houston and stole her idea but he denied seeing it and they never proved that he had been to the show. HE said he just came up with it. Looks like the pattern was originally published in 1980. I also found a post of a person that had placed an ad in AQS magazine looking for a copy of the pattern. She actually found one. Eleanor Burns also made a quick version of a diamond log cabin. It also looksl like there are many diamond log cabins that the Amish have made so you might find a pattern there. I'm going to look through my EQ files and see if I can find a diamond log cabin. Good luck. photo transfer HELP!!!!
Quilting Heidi replied to epprog's topic in Gone Quilting...Chat About Anything
Kona is probably way too loose of a weave and a little to thick. I would go with a really nice soft fabric. I'm sure the fabric I got was designed specifically for photo transfer and I bought it off othe bolt. I just don't remember what brand it was. -

Quilting Heidi replied to epprog's topic in Gone Quilting...Chat About Anything
Cher, I don't recall the brand fabric I used but definitely a higher thread count! The higher the thread count the better your immage will be. I treated all the fabric and ironed 8 1/2 x 11 precut freezer paper to it and then cut it out. It ran through the printer with no problems. Make sure you heat set it. -

Cher, Yes and I had no problems. I did a bunch of tests with it. -

I like the bubble jet set. You treat the fabric, iron the fabric onto freezer paper and run through the printer. It doesn't change the fabric at all and the pictures come out great. Just use a high thread count fabric. -
Gammill or APQS?
Quilting Heidi replied to auntstephie's topic in Gone Quilting...Chat About Anything
Stephanie, I'll just tell you why I chose APQS. CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! They are a great company to deal with and they build what I think is the best machine on the market. I've had my machine for 2 1/2 years now and don't regret buying it at all! I love it. I drove both machines and did lots of research on all the machines. To me the APQS handled the best and felt right for me. I'd suggest you do the same thing. I love everything about my machine and if I were to buy again I would definitely only buy APQS. -
Favorite/Best Sewing Table??
Quilting Heidi replied to njquiltergirl's topic in For Sale - Used Quilting Machines
Lisa my lift works wonderful and I haven't noticed any problems with cold. My quilting studio is in the basement that isn't heated. I run a kerosene heater when I'm down there and I have noticed a problem!
