iquiltit reacted to Gator in FORUMS OR FACEBOOK CURIOUS
I'm just a curious person. I was wondering if you prefer forums or facebook groups? I'm a forum gal. I love the forum because you can guess how long a person has been involved with a product or skill. I like how topics are divided into categories and doing a search for topics are fairly easy. I just feel cozier with the forum group than facebook, I'm not sure if that's the correct verbiage. I'm not against Facebook groups in fact I belong to a bunch. I just wonder how long a person has been using a product before they start giving advice, etc. I've seen bullies on both but not so much on forums now. Forums and Facebook Groups seem like two different environments to me. Wondering minds are curious.

iquiltit reacted to anniemueller in Pink Halloween Quilt
Look what I got to quilt! It's a pink themed Halloween quilt, to display at our local hospital during the month of October. Pink because it's breast cancer awareness month. The Jackson Hole Quilt Guild rotates a quilt display every month at our local hospital. The nurses and patients really appreciate it. We've had a hard time in years past trying to find a pink quilt for the October display. So we had the bright idea to make a quilt just for that. Different people made the applique blocks, others sewed them together with sashing and border. I quilted it, and just handed it off to another member to attach the binding. A terrific collaboration.
Last May I took a few classes from Judi Madsen in Salt Lake City. I just LOVE her work. So, you will see that she inspired this quilting.
The bat bra block is the one that really got me started with the quilt designs. The lady who made it drew a spider in a web on the cleavage, so clever and so easy to quilt that design!
Judi had just posted an applique quilt that she'd finished that had bugs in it. She gave the bugs motion by quilting a swirly design under them. I thought the ghosts need that swirly design too. Remember, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?!
I used a wool batting, glide thread with magna glide bobbins. Love those magna glide bobbins! Angela Huffman is a great source for them and her delivery is super fast.
Thanks for looking!

iquiltit reacted to Laura Farnham in Straight Line and Rolling Feathers,...... INSPIRED by a pattern from the Eleanor Burns Star Log Cabin Book, Colorado Log Cabin with Stars
UPDATED FEB 3,2022
Thank you for your overwhelming interest in this piece I quilted for my client back in 2015.
many have inquired about the pattern for the quilt as well as the digital patterns for the quilting.
I have attached the book used to inspire this piece as my client did do modifications to the pattern
for the Stars to fit her liking.
The Quilting was all freehand on my APQS Milli. of course,... you could use a feather stencil or digital feather design
and a ruler for the straighline work...
I hope this helps anyone looking to make this quilt,.. or a version of it,..
Happy Quilting
Laura
Update,.....
I did point out mistake to customer and we both decided it needed to be fixed.
so,... spent an afternoon picking out stitches, and 10 minutes to restitch the Feather,...
I was happy to do it as it was my mistake,....
I always point out mistakes if any,.. big or small
and let the customer decide,....
this one I knew she would want fixed,....
She is very pleased with the end result!!!
and so am I!!!
Thanks for looking ,....
Happy Quilting,...
Laura
Love the combination of the two,... Simple,.. with a pop!!!
I used a double Cotton Batting on this one,.. wanted the feathers to stand up
and take center stage,... Matching Glide Threads in the Grey, Burgundy and White Areas,...
Thanks for looking,...
** can you see the mistake? Found it after I pulled it off the frame,.... :0)

iquiltit reacted to tootsquilts in Help with Irish Star and How to Quilt
Hi fellow quilters. I am needing help with this Irish Star. I made this one, so there is not a problem with how I do this. I made three of these and two of them I used a panto on. I am wanting to custom this one. I have attached a picture of one with the Panto on it, and also pictures of the one I am wanting to custom. I have drawn a complete blank on what to do. As you can see, there are three different blocks in this quilt, so it should not be so confusing, but is. Thanks for any help you can give.

iquiltit reacted to Melissa in Disney Princess Toddler Quilt
I finished my Disney princess paper piecing toddler quilt. It ended up a 60 * 80. The pattern for the quilt was from a website called fandom in stitches. The piecing was very small, but I think the quilt turned out beautiful. The quilting was done on my QB (APQS Millie). It was a R and S board called hearts and flowers. This was a gift for a friend of mine who is having his first child at the age of 44. He has a beautiful heart and I thought he deserved an amazing baby gift. I am not big on baby quilts so I made a toddler one (I figured babies really don't sleep with a blanket).

iquiltit reacted to T Row Studio in Mommy and Me x3

She used a white on White Fabric That had a 1" diamond grid printed on it for the Background in the center area as soon as I saw that that
I wanted to practice some grid work . I just went for it what do you think do you practice on customers quilts?
Hope you have a great Day.

iquiltit reacted to Athina in My first custom!
I got Millie in September and did two small quilts with a meander stitch. This one I went all out and did my first custom work with rulers and free motion. So thrilled with the turnout.
Each stripe has a different pattern( stripes, plaid, cross hatch, meander, loops). The first border is wishbones and the outer border is piano keys.

iquiltit reacted to Marie0722 in Sea Breeze
I recently finished this quilt for a customer who usually does her own quilting on her domestic machine but thought that this one was too big for her to handle. Aren't the colours just beautiful? She had already drafted most of the feather design for the background, I just added the centre part as it was too much space to be left unquilted and chose the design for the circles. We are both very happy with the way it turned out.

iquiltit reacted to Pennyquilts in Dinner Plate Dahlia #1 Summer in Cabo
Finished the first of Three Dinner Plate Dahlia’s. This color way is called “Summer in Cabo”.
Although it takes almost 56 hours to quilt they are amazing. I don’t have a computer on my Millie so they are hand guided Enjoy the photos. I will post the second of the three in another post.

iquiltit reacted to Pennyquilts in Dinner Plate Dahlia #2 Martha Penner color way
This is the second of three Dinner Plate Dahlia’s that I have quilted. This one I tried to keep the quilting contemporary. There is no feathering on this quilt. Unlike the Summer in Cabo quilt with many thread changes. This quilt I only used the one color of thread. It was a blue/grey and perfect for this quilt. Again, there is about 56 hours into the quilting.

iquiltit reacted to ValerieJ in Finally installed zippers
YOU GUYS!!! I finally did it! After staring at them for 3 months and viewing video after video and reading and re-reading instructions, and just generally procrastinating, I FINALLY bit the bullet and attached my zippers to my leaders!!! It was pretty easy. I cannot believe I put it off so long.
I know you all will understand, so I just had to share.
Also, since I was fiddling around with my leaders anyway, and mine have always sagged in the center, even after I bought and installed new leaders, and rolling back and forth with the leaders zipped together didn't really improve the sag much, I decided to work on that as well. With the leaders zipped together, pulled taut with the zipper centered, I spritzed lightly with water, then skimmed the surface with a hot iron to dry it. Still sagging, so I spritzed again, turned on the ceiling fan and walked away. I did that about 4 times and they are almost completely sag free! I think I may roll the zipper to each bar and do the same technique further in on the leader on each side to see if I can get it completely taut all the way across.
Still need to mark inches along the edges.
Tomorrow I will get the other parts of the zippers attached to canvas tabs about 5-6 inches wide so I don't have to worry about running into zippers while quilting. I also need to get grosgrain ribbon (I guess cheap bias tape or hem tape, anything like that should work, too) in different colors. I recall seeing a hint somewhere that some smart person sewed a different color ribbon on the top of each leader and then the same color ribbon on the top side of the matching half of the zipper to make it easier to get it right when pinning/stapling/stitching the quilt parts to the zippers. I think I'll appreciate all the help I can get, because I really don't want to waste my valuable quilting time removing and re-attaching a quilt back I attached wrong.
You can barely see the last little bit of sag near the center mark. (Picture was taken before I stitched the last couple inches of leader to zipper by hand...)
Would love to know if you see anything that should be or could be changed or any handy hints or tips.

iquiltit reacted to dbams in My biggest quilt yet!
Here's my latest finish. California king, for us. So glad I get to keep it! Stopped at Renee's House of Quilting, in Williamsburg, MI, yesterday, to show Renee, since she helped me to choose the fabrics, and she took this picture. A special thanks to Kathy Schwartz (Tamarack Shack) for the border quilting idea and tutorial. It was perfect! So Fine! top and bottom thread, Quilter's Dream wool batting.

iquiltit reacted to Sharon M in 2 Lightning Strikes Bargello Quilts finished
Oh my, thank you all so much for the wonderful comments! I actually feel like a real quilter now! They are the greatest compliments I could have, and it feels good to give a little something back after all the great advice and inspiration I find here. This is an amazing place. I would be so lost without this forum.
Oma, your comment about your grandkids all graduating in succession made my eyes bug out! I hadn’t thought that far ahead yet! LOL Do they each get a quilt for their grad, and how do you keep up with making them all in time? At the rate I’m going, I better start now!
Linda, hi back! Good to see you too! We’re practically neighbors, would love to meet you some day. I’m always looking for posts from my fellow Canucks on here, (Hi Cathy!) and wishing I didn’t live quite so far from you all.
Dyan, thank you for your comment! I love that these pictures could inspire someone to try one of these quilts. They aren’t as difficult as one might think. There definitely are easier bargello patterns to make than this one though. There are so many interlocking lines in the Lightning Strikes pattern, I think my eyes were crossed by the time I was done. So worth it though! The very first bed sized quilt I made was a bargello, but a much simpler pattern, no lines cross each other. When I went to the quilt shop to pick fabrics, the ladies there discouraged me from trying one of these for my “first” quilt as they thought it would be too difficult for a newbie. I actually found it very easy to do and it went together quickly for me. It’s all strip piecing, and just a matter of moving the strip segments up or down to achieve the lines. Here’s a picture of my first. I didn’t have a pattern for a bed size quilt, but I had one for a small wall quilt, so I looked at a the picture and played around in EQ until I got what I liked. Oh, and I should say that I didn’t do the quilting on this one. I took it to a longarmer, and when I saw her magnificent Millenium, I became obsessed with getting my very own. I found this forum, and the rest, as they say, is history

iquiltit reacted to InesR in Rail Fence
Quick rail fence for a gift. I stewed and stewed on the dark, really thought it would show the "rails"..., but no, the light won out. The whole color/contrast thing still stumps/surprises me. Stipple and machine binding.

iquiltit reacted to Sharon M in 2 Lightning Strikes Bargello Quilts finished
Hi everyone! I'm finally responding to Ardelle's challenge to post pictures! Due to my crazy busy life, I was only able to complete 2 quilts in the past year. In less than 5 years, I've been blessed with 5 grandbabies... the 6th is due any day, and I haven't even started a baby quilt yet! These little munchkins plus a full time job keep a Gramma busy! LOL
Both quilts are bargellos... "Lightning Strikes" is one of my favorite patterns. The first, the green one, was made for my son's wedding last January. One of my first attempts at custom, I sweat buckets over the thought, but in the end, I'm pleased with how it turned out. I used Ronda Byer's rulers for the border... first attempt with them. They are so easy to use. Quilter's dream wool, it's my new favorite batting), and a silver/grey minky on the back. Ok, now to try posting pictures, fingers crossed that it works.

The second, oranges & browns, was for my daughter & son-in-law. She wanted the quilting to follow the lines of color. Was tons of rolling back & forth, I think it took longer than the first one. Again, Quilters dream wool, and brown minky on the back.
Both quilts are king size... 110 x 110 They take up my entire floor space in the living room

Both girls picked the Lightning Strikes pattern, and they each chose their own colors, all Jinny Byer fabrics. I have her portable pallette... such a wonderful tool for choosing fabrics, especially bargellos. No issues at all with the minky backing, it quilted beautifully
Thanks for looking, and thanks for the challenge Ardelle! And thanks also to Heidi for the instructions on using Flickr

iquiltit reacted to Deb in the Mtns in A Lion-size Dream
Posting here for those not part of the facebook group.
Not a really great picture - but it's finally done and gifted to my son for his move-in at school next month.
Applique center pattern "Majesty" by Gina Reddin Designs, borders are created with 'curved braid' by Victoria Findlay Wolfe.
Quilted on my Lenni with SoFine and Aurifil threads, Quilters Dream Wool Batting. All hand-guided - freehand faux McTavishing and some rulers.
I've been pantograph quilting for almost 5 years and only started FMQ this year.
This project stretched me in a LOT of ways - especially as it was for my youngest child as he leaves (1,000+miles) for college!
