barbm reacted to ffq-lar in Longarm etiquette
A new member (hi Becky!) asked a question about attaching a label to a customer quilt. I replied that there is a certain specific etiquette that new longarmers might need to be aware of. It isn't even industry specific--just some common sense and things we've learned from hard experience.
I'll start and please add more "rules".

The customer gets to see the finished quilt first. If it's in view when another customer is coming, put it away.

A signed in-take form will save you lots of problems and show you to be a professional.

No quilt is perfectly pieced. If you have a problem with fullness or bad borders and can't seem to overcome the issues, a call to your customer is needed. Have them come over to make some decisions on how to proceed. While you don't want to make them feel bad, being aware of the problems and how you plan to fix them will make friends.

    Okay quilters---add your ideas!

Here's the "other side"--etiquette for customers (I know, I'm dreaming!)

If you make an appointment, keep it.

Make sure your items are longarm-ready.

If you don't like something after quilting, let the quilter know. That's why she took notes on the intake sheet to refer to. If the thread/batting/quilting design are wrong, you have recourse and allow her/him to make the necessary corrections or an adjustment in the bill. Don't accept it and then tell your friends how disappointed you are. Tell her.

Please add to this list as well!

Amy at APQS was wonderful .It appears my Needle up sensor had gone bad. They sent me a new board and now it is top notch. The way we could tell it was a possible sensor problem was that the 5th light on the left bank did not light up.

Congrats Barb, that is wonderful news. I am seriously considering moving to the Seattle area because my daughter just had my first granddaughter. That is a long way from Kansas! Anyway, I will definetly be traveling to Seattle frequently so I look forward to meeting you in person.

David, I'd be glad to have the truck detour to Pasadena! All it takes is a $500 (fully refundable!) deposit - APQS will be in touch about the balance.  Now, which one would you like??? :P

barbm reacted to jandcembroidery in So Disappointed This Morning
As a young child, I remember Christmas eve setting out cookies and milk and awakening Christmas day to find them gone and my stocking full of surprises as well as gifts under the tree. Then when I'd lose a tooth, the next morning there would be some jingle under my pillow. Last night, I loaded my quilt and this morning it was in the same condition as I had left it. I have come to the realization, that there is no such thing as a "Quilt Fairy".

Nancy, we can help! There are several things you need to do, if you haven't already done them: first, check what version of QP you have installed. Current is 3.05.06. If you're on an earlier version, you'll get the dreaded "not responding" a whole lot more. Call Grace Co. and they'll walk you through the update (have your QP thumbdrive handy). Next, take the USB hub out of the circuit and plug the USB cable from the carriage directly into your tablet. Last, but definitely not least, get on the QP Facebook forum - you'll find most of your answers there, without any waiting and a LOT less stress. If you're not already part of that forum, email me and I'll get you an invite.

I am still driving my QP with the original Surface 2 - you shouldn't have issues, once you follow the steps above.

[added later...]  But we can't help you if you don't check back!!
