  1. The FFG you have been using means they are Titanium.
  2. Since many of us are now on Instagram - instant pictures instant satisfaction! I thought it would be handy to share our Instagram names mine is busyquilting If you then search the tags of #apqs #longarmquilting #longarmmachinequilting #freehandquilting etc lots of feeds come up.
  3. My go to threads are Glide and So Fine, I have to do very little tension adjusting between the two. If I want to use Invisifil ( my thin go to) or Cotton thread such as Cairo or King Tut I change the upper thread path on the three hole guide above the tension discs - I go down into the first hole and up into the last and then into the tension disc. Effectively this loosens the top tension. I use Prewound Magna-Glide Classics or selfwound Bottomline almost exclusively in the bobbin. I find there is too much lint with Omni. I have some Aurifil but after having trouble with it on my domestic many moons ago I haven't jumped into try it on the longarm as I have many other threads that work great!
  4. I had trouble with "bearding " from a pure wool batting more than ten years ago. It was gentle machine washed. I now use wool/poly on a scrim in all of my quilts and they have been through the washing machine numerous times.
  5. Make sure that whatever way you have your thread through the 3 hole guide that in the last hole it goes from the top down to the tensioner
  6. I am loving that one button to stop and start and no more Command and blue to pause!
  7. Meg, Oiling the whole spool of thread is going to put oil in all your thread guides and your tension disc, which will then attract the dust. The parts of the APQS machines where the threads goes do not need to be lubricated. I took a lot of what SS said with a bit of scepticism when I had a class with her. Maybe her machine doesn't run as well as mine.
  8. Jess Thank you for working out how to post photos. That quilt and your work on it look amazing.
  9. Theresa, You mention loose belt sound, so try investigating "under the cover". You will need to undo the screws on the top cover , if you don't have the manual then take note of where the plastic shims are etc in relation to the screws you take out. The top cover has some electronics connected to it so you can rest it on top of the machine without completley disconnecting it. Check the motor brushes of the motor these are the black caps either side of the motor, once you undo these a spring will want to jump out so be ready for it. On the end of the spring are the brushes make note of their orientation. Measure how long these are, if it is less than 3/8" they need replacing. While you have the brushes out take your compressor place a cloth over the hole on the other side and blow it out. These may have worn out which leads to the motor slowing down.
  10. Do you have some thread caught in the bobbin?
  11. I feel the PVC clips may be similar to the clip that Dave Jane ( Grasshopper ) has. THese are more for clipping a complete sandwich back on to make any corrections. I have a lot my husband made me in 6" lengths that I use for fix ups.
  12. Man Quilter has a great video on his website of loading a quilt in less than 5 minutes using the Leadergrips. I have red snappers and take a little longer than that as I like to roll onto the backi roller first then reroll onto the front roller getting out all the creases and wobbles. My backs are a lot neater and straighter with the Red Snappers than pinning ever was.
  13. Linzi, Are you saying you have heaps of crinkle featherweights! I have had to purchase my white Featherweights in the UK, they never came to Australia. I have also bought a few 221 's from the UK too for friends that wanted them. I have 8 featherweights here now and my husband says that is enough.
  14. Sue, Your the first person I have seen with a "real one". On ebay they pay thousands for one of those. I'll stick with my White, Tan, Centennial and 222.
  15. I think they use "Liquid Nails" to glue the canvas to the poles. I have some new canvases to replace mine. Just need to sew the hems for the red snappers first. Then get up the gumption to "Just do it".
  16. Home Groan Quilting Cotton Pickin Patches Pinned to Perfection Or Empty Spools but it is already taken! Lyn
  17. I chose Busy Quilting for my name since every time someone rang me and asked what I was doing I would answer I am "Busy....Quilting". Many years ago when my husband and I had just moved into our first new house and were establishing the gardens, we didn't realise that everytime someone came to visit he asked "didyabringabeeralong", until his sister gave him a Wooden house Name Sign for his birthday with that on. In 26 years it has been on Four more houses. Lyn
  18. Zeke, I knew you had a few machines, but not that many. So you have the original Longarm Sanctuary? Lyn
  19. I have a gel mat in front of my ironing baord and love it. It is very heavy, so it doesn't slide on my tile floor. I also have the clip together foam mats (usually used inside tents etc when camping) in front of my machine. For working from the panto side I wear my crocs. The gel mat feels better under bare feet, as the clip togethers have holes that sometimes form a vacuum under the foot, so you get popping sounds!! Wouldn't be able to spend the hours quilting on tile floors without them. Lyn
  20. I have a Horn cabinet though I don't use it as the sitting position does net let me sit straight on to the needle. Instead I use a folding camp table that I have adjusted to the right height for this vertically challenged sewer with another 4ft folding table as an extension. A further 4ft folding table my DH has put extension legs on for a cutting table. Check where your needle and seat can fit before buying a new cabinet. Especially if you have one of the longer throat DSM. Lyn
