  1. Thanks to all for the encouraging words!!!! I'm feeling empowered. Jackie, I will certainly sign up to volunteer at MQS. Also, Mary Beth, I do belong to the MO-Kan guild. I have learned a lot from them. I really like the idea of the charity quilts because I have a ton of fabric that would work for that. I hope that I can meet you all at MQS this year. I've wanted a longarm for about 5 years and now that I have one, I just need to take the leap. Thanks again for all the great suggestions. Virginia
  2. I too am a new Millie owner, as of Christmas. I don't have any problem loading my millie, it's just I don't know how to come up with how to quilt it!!! I've practiced on muslin but when I put "a real quilt"on I just stare at it...and stare at it....and then look at books to get an idea. I have signed up for some classes at MQS. I don't know why I just freeze!!! I have a wall hanging I've looked at for 2 weeks and have no idea what to do. It's a simple maple leaf quilt. I do swirls well but I want to advance from all over quilting to individualizing my quilts. Ugh.... I don't know what I'
  3. Thanks everyone. I haven't named her yet. I am trying to decide between Ruby because she is such a jem, and Grace which was my grandmothers name who is actually the one that I inherited the money to buy her with. Anyway, she is set up and I'm about to embark on a dream come true. My dealer just left a little while ago and I'm trying to adjust to how huge she is. I thought I had plenty of room. Oops:P:P:P. Looks like there is going to be some major rearranging going on in my basement. One of the reasons I chose a Millie is because of this forum. Everyone seems to be so supportive. Well,
  4. OMG. They delivered my new Millie yesterday and it will be set up this morning. What have I done. It is HUGE. I think I can hardly wait to try her out but she's not even put together, yet. I sure hope I'm up for it. I'm like a kid at Christmas. Hardly slept last night. ;) Oh well, guess there's no turning back now. (Really wouldn't want to anyway) Let the adventure begin. Virginia
  5. Truly beautiful. Well done and for a great cause to.
  6. Oh my, this is gorgeous!!!! I want to be able to quilt like that one day. Congratulations on a beautiful piece of art. You should be very proud. I am getting a Hartley Fence with my new Millie that is coming.. Does anyone know if it will do anything like this? Virginia
  7. Love the pic of the pups. I can hardly wait for the snow to fall in KC. The weather folks say we might get some Friday. I grew up in South Louisiana and have been in Kansas for 20 years. I still love the snow. Thanks for sharing. Virginia
  8. I have no idea what it is but I ordered it on my new Millie that's coming. Sounded interesting to me. All I know is it is suppossed to make the machine glide very smoothly. Oh, and it costs $1250. Hope it's worth it.
  9. Thanks alot Shana. All very good advice. I think I'm going to just get the machine and play a while. Then I'll decide if its something I want to do for others. There are quite a few longarmers in my area. It will be some time before I could even consider quilting for others. Everyone is very supportive here. I belong to a MQG and have learned a lot from just attending meetings before I even ordered my machine. Now I'll be able to put into practice some of the things I've learned. Thanks for the advice about the local Small Business Development Center. I will definitely look into that b
  10. Thanks Connie for the advice. I have put my down payment down and am very excited about my machine. I'm a little nervous about spending all that money on something that I know will take a long time to master. Joy in the journey, right!!
  11. Call me crazy but I agree with Shana. It doesn't matter which machine someone chooses. I know I'm new to this, but I go to a lot of quilt shows.. and I can't tell what machine was used. And further more, I don't care. I just love looking at all the beautiful quilts and appreciate the art that is displayed!!! There are some unbelievably talented quilters out there. I just focus on the beauty;)
  12. Mary Beth, are you in the MQG that meets in Olathe? I am a member but haven't been lately because of my "real job". I'm a nurse and we have been very busy. I get called in all the time. So I guess in reality, I don't have time to start a business right now.
  13. Thanks for all the info. I have looked into the tax number and business license. I would not do anything that wasn't on the up and up. I have a "Higher" authority to answer to. I think I'm just going to do it for myself for now. I just need to get my machine.
  14. That's good to know Holly. I can hardly wait until my machine gets here!!! Santa's comin to my house early. Yepee:D
  15. Thanks for all the advice. My DH has been saying the same thing. Imagine that:) He is very supportive. He knows I want the machine for myself and has told me not to quilt for others unless I really want to. I am lucky because I am able to pay for the machine as I have received a small inheritance from my grandparents. I guess I'll just enjoy and be greatful I can quilt for myself and not feel any guilt. Virginia
  16. I am buying a new Millie and was just going to quilt for myself. (Selfish, I know). But, I have a lot of quiilting friends who want me to quilt and want to pay me. Should I start a business? I haven't even gotten my machine yet and don't know if anyone will want to pay me for quilting;). I know it will take lots of PPP so not sure if there are any benifits to creating a small business. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Virginia
  17. I'm considering buying a new 2008 Milli because of the deal that's going on right now. Should I wait for the 2009 to come out? I'm getting the Hydralic Lift and the new "Easy Glide".. which I really don't even know what it is!!! It just sounds like something I would use. I don't want a computer with mine yet.. I have been quilting for about 4 years and have quite the addiction but REALLY don't want to be cured !!! Sounds like the Milli is a good choice, just don't know if I should wait until 2009's come out. I know there will always be a "new machine" coming out. Since I am buying this for
