  1. One time I had this problem on my Gammill, the problem turned out to be the needle insertion (human error). Somehow I hadn't pushed the needle up far enough and it was hitting the hook.
  2. The block is to big to scan the whole thing. This is just part of one and done with the Inktense pencils.

  4. I haven't completed my experiments. I actually was useing a Ranger ink product and Dr. PH Martins Bombay India inks. The Ranger product isn't going to cut it. Washed out even with the overlay of textile medium. So that one is out for sure. The greens I used in the leaves were just the India ink with an overlay of the textile medium. I have heat set the piece, then washed and dryed the piece. It didn't bleed much, but I was useing a very light hand with a tiny bursh to get that extreme detail. I do tend to work in a very tight and controlled way. Love detail! I'm watching the San Antonio Battle of Flowers Parade, yep, it's Fiesta time in SA.   5. I'm experimenting with India Ink on Fabric for the quilt I'm doing. It is going to be a Baltimore Album with all blocks done in fabric painting.
  6. [/img] Results after the heat setting and then washing. As you see it faded out on the flower a lot. That was the area I used the Ranger ink product with textile medium. Will not be useing that product for fabric painting. The India Ink held up very well, I did topcoat it with the textile medium. I would suggest that if you are going to use this, do your painting, heat setting and washing before you assemble your quilt. Fewer surprises that way.
  7. For me it is the simple (well, not so simple) experience of "creating". I told someone in my fabric painting class last week that "Being creative brings me close to GOD". Guess that's it, can't live without it.
  8. I didn't have any problem with the last wool one I did with a black back. I don't think I would worry about it.

  11. I love quilting, my longarm is my best friend, I spend more time with her than with my DH. But......I just hate to work on all white. I love it when it's done. But.....in all the years I've been longarming I've never found a truly easy way to mark a white quilt. By the time I get one done I am almost blind. There has to be a way.
  12. The class I'm teaching (basic tech.) is useing fabric paint. I love the Tsuneikeko tech. too, but the materials are a bit expensive if you are just starting out. The gals in the class asked for a longer class period and advanced tech. in the future. Maybe they like it. This is a free class, done for adults at a public libaray. Strictly done as a free community service. But I'm having some fun!
  13. It is very hard to find a "Tactfull" way to approach a bad quilt. We all respond to them as best we can. Why do we expect to have a "happy" outcome to every person that approaches us? At least 50% of the outcome is fixed, before we ever see it. It just doesn't happen. I just do the best I can.
  14. I'm like so many other quilters. I can dream up and start more projects in a week than I can complete in a year!! The important thing is to stay in there and "Get her done!"
  15. Working in my studio. Current projects include a quilt on the quilting machine. This is for one of our wonderful servicemen. And an ongoing "Baltimore Album" top that is all fabric painting. I'm loving this project and the results are looking good. I can't wait to see how it all goes together and what it will look like after it is quilted. Next week I'll be teaching a fabric painting class at the local libarary. It is so much fun to share with others! What's going on in your studio?
  16. I wouldn't reccommend them if you are useing the mono-poly threads. I've broken them just for use on my DSM. Seems like that thread packs and expands the sides so fast they break before you even notice they are winding weird.
  17. One of the very first quilts I took in for a customer was just exactly like this. The intersections were so thick it was like hitting a brick wall! I didn't refuse it, but, I called my client, explained the problem, gave her one of my books on piecing (that I never got back!) in an attempt to educate her. Then I told her I would "Tack" the quilt on the quilting machine as it was the best approach I could think of. Oh, did I mention her batting was that super thick stuff, all poly, that uphosters use! The thing looked more like a matteress than a quilt. She did pay me, and I never saw her again.
  18. Thanks, I couldn't sleep so I came up to my studio and found that e-mail from my client. Guess I know now why I couldn't sleep!
