I would love to have a copy of the tats Karen McTavish has on her arms on the side of my Millie for inspiration.

Linda, every time I read one if your posts in response to a call for help, I feel like I've been to a master class. You really are a jewel.

Theresa, Corey, and Cathy your blocks went out today. Felt so good to get a few of them in the mail! I'm still waiting to hear from everyone else with an address and priority. Again if you are in a hurry let me know and I'll get one right out to you. Otherwise I'll just work through the list as people send me their info. My email again is
    oireachtas@att.net
Thanks for all of the support.
Bonnie- I had been wondering how you were doing after your finger surgery. I'm sorry the recovery has been slower than you had hoped.
Annette- when I shattered my shoulder and had replacement surgery I was very frustrated with how long it took me to recover. After six months my therapist finally told me that it was not unusual for the recovery period to be a year. I was at least lucky that we incorporated "long arming " into my range of motion therapy and I was back at my machine for short periods after about 6 weeks.

Ok girls here is my update. I am still not there. The last couple of weeks have had my usual minor aches and pains flare into a major event. Last two weeks or so have had me drugged out on muscle relaxants and pain killers and haven't been able to piece or quilt at all - barely been able to get out if bed some days. Very frustrating. My doc finally decided to do a rheumatology workup when we realized that my joints were so swollen that I couldn't get rings I usually wear over my knuckles and i was wearing sandals because shoes wouldn't fit. Just ache all over! Have not been able to piece or quilt at all and have this project and a baby quilt that needed to be quilted a week ago gathering dust! Plan is to start some steroids and see if that actually helps sysptoms rather than just trying to mask symptoms with the muscle relaxants and painkillers which don't give much relief but make me feel like a zombie. So I propose that Theresa send out the packets to everyone without me. I have about 16 or 17 blocks ready to go. If everyone will send me their name and address and how high a priority it is for them I will send out the blocks i have ready to those who are anxious to get started.I will send out to the folks who want to get started quickly this week and for those of you who can wait I hope to be well enough to get them out within a couple weeks. Email me at oireachtas@att.net with your info and priority status. I can have my husband mail out the ones ready to go this week- can't safely drive myself because of the stupid meds. Sure wish I had decided to live with the first batch with the wrong side fabric! Thanks for your patience ladies. Everyone did such a great job. When we started I wondered how this would end up with such an open ended standard for the blocks. What a fun, interesting and unique result we have ended up with. Keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I work through this crisis. I don't tolerate inactivity well. My mother in law is having surgery this week and I am always the person who goes and takes care of her when she has a health crisis. It's killing me to have to tell the family that I can't do it this time. I hope one of her daughters will step up.

As one of the slowpokes let me chime in. I think it's totally Theresa's call as to whether or not she wants to go ahead and get these sent out. I would rather take responsibility for getting my blocks to each of you than to see her inconvenienced any further. I promise everyone will get a block with some ready now if some folks are in a hurry to get started on their finished product. It's been slow going on this second round - having some health issues that limit the time I can piece. But they are really cute.

Well, while doing the final thread clipping and pressing of my blocks, I discovered that one of my background pieces was put in wrong side up! And since I had a stack for assembly lining I have consistently made this mistake on 21 blocks. I'm In the process of trying to disassemble and replace this piece but since it's paper pieced I might just have to remake this half of my block. I'm haunted by all of the times I used to chastise my children for finishing school projects at the last minute and tell them they needed to allow time for something to go wrong. I will work, work, work on this ( better call husband to bring in take out if he wants dinner tonite) and hope to have this fixed by sometime tomorrow or Friday at latest. I can't believe I didn't notice this sooner but the white on white difference didn't show up blatantly until I started taking off the white foundation paper from behind it. Everyone's blocks look wonderful and I can't believe that I am going to be the "late guy".

Thanks Oma. I just hate being late because I thought I had this so under control. But then I told myself what I always try to remember when life throws me a curve ball. "If this is the worst thing that happens to me today, I'm probably having a much better day than more than half of the people in this world". And then I decided to take a Starbucks break, pulled up to pay for my drink and was told that the person in the car ahead of me had paid for my drink. Random act of kindness just when I needed it!

Instead of making this your problem can't you just tell her to supply a larger back? I guess this is why I'm not a pro. It's bad enough dealing with my own mistakes. I don't think I want to deal with other people's.

I got off to a good start and then got bogged down with some health and family issues and then a week and a half trip to Maine with my sister. I did try to talk my sister into taking sewing machines and "quilt retreating" in the evening but she vetoed the idea. Had a wonderful time in Maine but will pay for it this next week with marathon sewing to try to get done.

oireachtas got a reaction from LFQuilts in quilting inherited tops?
This is a quilt top that I found when clearing out my 90+ year old aunt from her home to assisted living. She pieced it as a child in the 1920's and it had been stored in a dresser drawer for nearly 80 years. I was terrified to quilt it, but really wanted it finished rather than just stuck in a drawer for another 80 years! It was in perfect condition with no rot or stains. The things you need to worry about are the condition of the fabric- if it has become weak it may not like the high speed sewing on a longarm. And the condition of the seams, which along with weakened fabric will not like any tension you put on it with rolling on the frame. So don't pull it tight- make sure you are not stressing the thread or fabric. I would also say respect the era of rhe piece and try to quilt it somewhat as a hand quilter of the era might have. I have not the time, skill, nor patience to hand quilt. I am happy to have this quilted and and out where my family can see it, enjoy it and remember her.

Oh bonnie, I know I should want to be surprised but I would love to see! And seeing people's blocks will help me decide about mine. I'm working on the watermelon pop side this weekend, and watching to see if what I planned for my other pop is "bright" enough. I think the top may be a little subdued after seeing Theresa's and some of the other fabrics. This swap made me realize that I have bins and bins of fabric and nothing wildly bright.

Bonnie, I really like that fabric. I was looking for something like that for my Popsicle top and ended up with something that is a little more subdued. Do you have info in it. I know it's probably something you've had stashed away for years!
