  1. Thank you - that sounds like a good idea. I'll report back on how it works.
  2. I am thrilled to be almost finished converting my garage into a beautiful studio. One of the last things to do is figure out how to suspend the cords from my Millie from the ceiling. Can anyone post photos of a set up that does that? I know I've seen photos with long springs being used - but haven't been able to find any. My handyman and I would really appreciate it! Thanks, Carol
  3. I've been tempted to try a "quilt as you go" strip quilt on my longarm - seems like it would work. Carol
  4. I have Swirlz and the crosshatch boards for sale for half of retail. I also have the Pantograph Precision system (not sure that I got the name right) for sale. Contact me at carolegates @ att.net. Will deliver to any location within 3 hours of Raleigh, NC. Carol
  5. I have the swirlz boards available and the crosshatch boards with the pop-up tool. I'll sell them for half the retail price. My email is carolegates @ att.net if you are interested. Carol
  6. Linda, Do you mind explaining how you join the ends on your longarm? More and more of my customers are asking me to attach the binding on my longarm, and I'm happy to do it, but would love to eliminate the extra step of joining the ends on my sewing machine. Thank you, Carol
  7. I have one for sale but it's in NC. Please email me at carolegates@att. net if you are interested. It's a great device, but I have IQ now and don't need it anymore. Carol
  8. If I'm ever asked to quilt one of these I'm coming right back to your post for inspiration. It's just beautiful. Carol
  9. Regarding re-packing the gear box - this is a chore I always put off because it requires taking the machine off the frame and turning it upside down to get to the gearbox. Or so I thought until my sewing machine repair guy insisted that it could be repacked without turning the machine over. Sure enough - he sat on the floor under the machine, took off the cover, re-packed it, replaced the cover and my machine is so, so much quieter. The only difference in doing it this way is that you can't stir or poke at the grease to get air bubbles out - if you do the grease starts to fall out of the gear box. Carol
  10. Gorgeous! You make a great team! Carol
  11. Kathy, if you are wanting more quilting definition, using Quilters Dream Deluxe 100% cotton may be an option instead of double batting. I have been recommending it to customers who want their quilts to feel like a "real" quilt. I love the way it looks, it shows off your quilting without the loft of wool batting. Carol
  12. I delivered a queen sized quilt done with the Swirlz board a couple of days ago, and I must say after a run of custom quilts it was nice to make a decent hourly rate again. My customer loved it! I have the Circle Thingy and it is perfect for inserting circles into the quilting design of custom quilts. Great products! My only complaint is that on the Baptist Fan boards there is a small space between the fans that I don't like - not sure if there is a solution to that. Carol
  13. Sorry to have been so slow to respond! The PPP does exactly what it is advertised to do- giving you more control when doing a pantograph. If you are already pretty good at pantographs you probably won't see a huge difference in the finished product- but the process will be easier. It's nice to be able to sit down while quilting and to be very accurate without a whole lot of effort. Carol
  14. I changed my mind about selling it- sorry! Soon after I posted I did a pantograph and was really glad I still had the PP system. Carol
  15. I am selling my Precise Pantograph System for $200 (regular price is 299.99). It is made for a Millenium. This tool really does help you with stitching out pantographs. You can go to the website for more information. I am selling it because my business almost completely consists of custom work or freehand E2E designs, I haven't done a pantograph in over a year. I will pay shipping to the lower 48 states. The saddle stool is also for sale, $75 (I paid around $100 for it.) This would be pick up only, I don't want to take it apart to try to ship it. I live east of Raleigh, NC. Email me if you're interested, carolegates @att.net. Thanks for looking! Carol
  16. I also charge $25/shirt for basic layout, a little extra for custom layouts. This includes everything. Carol
  17. I was struggling with machine movement issues also so put in a call to APQS and talked with Dawn C. herself! She was incredibly helpful. The biggest aha! piece of information was testing each wheel on the carriage individually to see how tight it was. First she had me loosen both sets of wheels. Then for each wheel, I held the machine still and tried to turn the wheel without moving the machine. The goal is to have each of them giving about the same amount of resistance. I found that mine were very uneven, so went back to adjusting the tightness per the instructional video. I had done this many times before, but this time I was able to fine tune things instead of trying to figure out if I had made things better or worse just by feel. I would recommend a call to APQS while you are at the machine with your tools handy while someone talks you through this. I hope this helps. Carol
  18. I usually use Quilter's Dream Poly for t-shirt quilts. It is lighter, and won't shrink. Since everything on a t-shirt quilt has been pre-washed and pre-shrunk, I don't want a batting that will shrink at all. Beware of the lower quality polyester battings you get at Joanne's - they are difficult to work with when quilting on your DSM. Carol
