  1. I've had my Liberty 9 years and I've replaced them three times.  The first time I changed them was because they were stretched,  Then I ordered some canvases that had been printed with a one inch grid and other markings.  I thought I would love them.  I did not.  That was also my phase of "zippers".  Didn't like those either.  Then I decided I wanted some pretty canvas.  Nope that was kind of stupid.  So now I'm back to my natural colored canvases and I seem to be content with them.  It's not hard to change them and the canvas is cheap enough.  The hardest thing is the first time and fear of messing them up.  I think how often you would need to change them would depend on how many quilts you do.  I quilt in spurts and only for myself and I let my friends quilt on my machine and I figure about every 3 - 5 years at least.

  2. I would call APQS and ask them for an estimate.  I don't remember being quoted that much.  They do encourage you to buy a box for shipping and I believe that was around $35.  Then there was the shipping charges and for some reason I think it was under $100 both ways.  Definitely worth asking them.

  3. I love these bags and yours is beautiful.  Your daughter will absolutely love it.  I guarantee it.  I just bought more fabric on Wednesday to make another one.  I'm going to teach a friend how to make one and I figured I might as well make another one at the same time and gift it to another friend.

  4. I can give you my opinion because I have all three.  Leader Grips were fine, but I almost immediately upgraded to Red Snappers which I still use.  I don't remember why I did that.

I usually pin the top of the back and I use the Red Snappers on the bottom of the back.  I do this because I have a Liberty with a 20 inch throat and some of my quilts are fairly big.  If I use Red Snappers sometimes the tube gets in a position just right to take up ½ inch or so of my throat space and I have trouble getting the needle to the other edge if I'm using my CL boards.  I hope that makes sense, anyway, I float my tops.

I had (and still have) several sets of zippers and hated them from day one.  It was way more work than pinning or using the Red Snappers.  The zippers are nice if you have to remove the quilt in the middle of quilting it in order to put another quilt on.  I don't sew for others so that was never an issue.

  5. Marti, the room is 12' x 25' roughly.  This was a model home when we bought it and we had the option of having it be two bedrooms or have the wall left out so it's like a big bonus room.  We had three other bedrooms and it's just my husband and me so we decided on the bonus room for my sewing.  We lived here almost 15 years before I got the chance to take out the carpet and add the sewing tables.  Those were the most expensive part of redoing my room.  I love my peg board.  I keep a lot of stuff on it.  Stuff that would otherwise go in a drawer some where and be forgotten about.  Plus it's very handy to have stuff hanging on a peg board.  My very favorite thing is the shelves I have my fabric on.  I love being able to see all of it and touch it.  I have never had a problem with fading or anything.  I bought the shelves at Orchard Supply Hardware a few at a time over several years.  Or at least one wall at a time.  They were very reasonably priced.  Thanks for commenting on it.

  6. These are both beautiful quilts and the quilting is wonderful. I saved them both for inspiration.

I understand about the 5 grandbabies in 5 years. That happened to me too. I thought it was wonderful...I kept saying "yay...I get a new model every year". There was 6 of them. Then they all started graduating from high school and heading off to college. Every year I have one graduating from high school and another heading off to college. Now they've started graduating from high school and another from college at the same time. This cycle is going to continue for quite some time. It's not just the expense of trying to help out, but think of the traveling it entails since they all live in different states and trying to be at all the graduations. Thank God the last three have a couple of years between them. I wouldn't change any of this because it has been lovely. You're going to have a grand adventure.♥

  7. It's very nice in my room and I do like spending time up there. My room is about 13'x24' and it is very easy to work in. Sometimes it's very clean, but not usually because I'm usually neck deep in several projects at once. I wanted to store my AccuQuilt dies all neat, but I was trying to find some way without spending a lot of money for a cabinet. Even the one from AccuQuilt was around $1500 after shipping and taxes. I found the exact same one from a different place and it was half the price and free shipping. Perfect.

I'm going to try to post another pic of the long wall of shelves that run behind the Liberty. I don't see it in any of my other pics. As you can see, I really like those little plastic containers. I bought them when they were still reasonably priced and using a 40% off coupon. Now they have gone up in price about 40%.

  8. Heidi,

CL is short for Circle Lord like Linda said. They are awesome and so worth the money. Not cheap by any means. I gulped the first time I ordered some, but I have not regretted that purchase one single bit.

The drawers under my Liberty mostly came from JoAnn's with a 40% coupon. I think I actually ordered the white ones from Target online...again during a sale so I got them fairly cheap. Look for IRIS Scrapbook Case Chest. They come with little rollers which I didn't put on because I wanted to have space above them to lay other stuff and I wasn't going to pull them out anyway. They are VERY convenient. I do keep a little step stool nearby so I can sit on it when I want to take time to look through several drawers. Or I can just pull the plastic drawers out and set them on my table to go through them. I like that the drawers have lids so they close and stuff doesn't fall out of them. All the drawers are labeled so I find things really fast. The best thing is they are clear so I can sort of see through them.

  9. Meg, believe it or not, I kind of know exactly what I have. My friends are always surprised that I can walk straight to something I'm looking for. They tell me it's like having a photographic memory...I just roll my eyes and point to the labels on everything laughing.

I frequently will buy two of something like my favorite scissors so I can keep one pair by my sewing machine and one over on the cutting table and not have to constantly be going back and forth.

There is a method to my madness for sure.

One question, what do you use that orange hammer for?

All sorts of funny answers came to mind for this question because everyone asks me, but truthfully, if you have a thick, unruly seam intersection you can spray it with a little starch then hit it with that hammer and it behaves quite nicely. It doesn't happen often, but when it does this really helps.

They sell little hammers in quilt stores for this purpose, but I went to Harbor Freight and bought a "manly" one. LOL.
