Well  the past year still has my head spinning.  Husband took a new job in Oregon. We had to sell our house in Montana & buy a house in Oregon. We have most (some) of the boxes unpacked, My sewing room is close to being set up. I had to get a new password to get back on here-it has been so long since I had any time to do much on any computer. I am back!

    Joan,
MQX  has never been to Iowa as far as I know. Their shows have been in Portland, Oregon, Manchester New Hampshire and Springfield Il . I have attended several of the shows in each city.  In my humble opinion, they put on the best machine quilters show.  We were in Manchester this spring and I attended 6 classes.   The owners of the show are always on the show floor making sure everything is going as it should. There is  always a good slate of recognized teachers with  drawing classes ( which I love to take) for a very reasonable amount. Hands on classes are not for me, and too expensive.   They also have very interesting special exhibits.  I think this organization really strives to put on a quality show.  Their shows are Manchester, New Hampshire in the spring and Springfield, Illinois in the fall

Thanks Meg!  Thanks everybody else.  It was a great night.  I was so blessed to have so many of my friends with me last night cheering me on.  It was my Luminous star quilt that won 2nd place.  Curved Bliss didn't place but she is showing so wonderful at this show!  The lighting is perfect to pic up all the quilting!  Thanks for all the support!!!!

Thank goodness my grandchildren seem  understand the importance of their quilts from Grandma.  They are 6,4 and 2.  I think their mom had a lot to do with them understanding how cool it is to get something handmade.  Dylan (6)  was playing the other day with some binder clips and he explained that these were "quilt aliens" and the eat quilt fabric!   Only the words were pronounce quilt " aweons"  and quilt "fabwic". Just cracked me up.  I hope I can remember the sound of his sweet little boy voice till the day I die.

a quilt is a WORK OF ART .  When sleeping under a Quilt you are Covered with LOVE.  A blanket is a single woven item made mostly made from synthetic fibers.

    David:

First off if its under $50 its probably a blanket, and if it costs more than $50 it is probably a quilt.

Though in reality I feel you must look at the "verb" tense of each word to get to the definition you are looking for.

Blanket - verb - cover completely with a thick layer of something.

Quilt - verb - join together (layers of fabric or padding) with lines of stitching to for a bed covering or warm garment, or for decorative effect.

As I see it any single layer bed covering is a blanket.  Once you get multiple layers it becomes a quilt in my humble opinion.  Concerning those that use the wrong word referring to your art work, just consider it lack of understanding and ignorance in the subject.  Just like words "clip" or "magazine" and "bobbin finger" or "bobbin tension spring".  Try to use the proper terms when discussing any subject.

In the end, when your family member asks you to make them a blanket, just hand them a layer of batting, as it meets the verb definition of a "blanket".  Then they may come to understand the true meaning of the two words.

I finally got my star quilt quilted.  I've also named it Luminous Splendor.  It has been accepted in MQX so I have to hurry and get the binding done.  Here is a picture of a corner of the quilt.  This quilt is only 32 x 32 so this is almost to the middle :-).  I also included a picture of it soaking in the tub.  I always soak my quilts in the bathtub to remove all the blue marks.  Once it has soaked well, usually at least an hour or more, then I run it though my front loader on a delicate cycle.  Then I block it on a piece of insulation foam.  Next up is the binding!  I've decided on prairie points in pink and green.  I hope it work the way I think it will.

I use it on show quilts and love it!  Runs beautifully and looks great when you have to do some dense quilting.  You will be amazed how it looks.

I'm happy to announce the birth of our third granddaughter, Anabelle Marie, born today at 4:24 am.  7.5 lbs, 19" long.  She is perfect in every way.  She has the longest fingers and a ton of hair!  She is most comfy with her hand holder her face.  LOL  We are truly blessed and so thankful that God would give us such a precious gift!

This is how I straighten out Quilters Dream Request or Select.  I have several customers who will not use any other batting so I had to find a way straighten those batings.  Like Linda S. I roll the quilt sandwich but leave it a little slack.  Then I gently tug the batting and the top together to keep the batting from "cupping,"    Then I tighten the sandwich.  The top becomes the stabilizer for the batting.  This has saved my sanity and I no longer get those dang cups in the batting.  Hopefully this is the answer you were looking for.

Six of us are driving from Dayton, Ohio.   3 Longarm  quilters and 3 domestic quilters.  I have a full slate of classes as usual LOL.  I love to learn from all the new teachers because you never know what awesome idea they will bring to class!  This is our second trip to MQX east.  We have attended in Portland, Illinois and New Hampshire.  Janet Lee  and Mary put on a professional show!  I can't say enough about what a great experience it is.  There are many classes to satisfy all skill level of quilters.  An added bonus is overall the comfortable feeling throughout the entire show.  Everyone is so NICE! Y'all should come!
