First, let me start off by apologizing for not posting this sooner.  I received a thank you letter from Rita's husband, Roland (a.k.a Himself) at the end of June.
I want to thank you and all the gals on the APQS forum.  I know Rita really enjoyed talking to you all.  I want to thank you for the lovely quilt you all made for Rita.  I finally put it on our bed last week.  It lightens up the room.  I still stop and read some of the comments that you all wrote.
I believe my daughter. Val, let you all know of Rita's passing on Mother's Day.  I had met her on the Wednesday before Mother's Day in 1957, Val was born on the Saturday before Mother's Day of 1966, and she passes on Mother's Day.
Roland then wrote of a number of times he and Rita met up with people from the forum while they were traveling, and how much they enjoyed that.  He concluded by saying,
Still stay in touch.  It's by phone for me, I'm not a computer whiz.
Tell all the gals on the forum hello for me.  I've enjoyed the people from APQS and the visit we had there in '09.  It's only 60 miles from my home town of Mapleton.
If you would like Roland's phone number or mailing address, please PM me, and I will get that to you.  It's not something I am comfortable posting publicly on the forum.
Sorry again for the delay in sharing this letter.  I tucked it in my computer bag with the intention of posting it while I was up north at our cottage, but then forgot all about it.  You know what they say about good intentions . . .

For the waves I would free hand following the waves in the fabric. I hate marking and you have perfect fabric already marked. For the green background I would mix up some extra details like wind around the flags; cobblestone walkways, etc. Of course, this would most effeminately add to the cost.  What a treasure of gift this client received; I wish you the best of success with it!

I don't quilt for others but I do stitch down a scant 1/4" from the edges because it makes a better binding edge and no puckers. Long ago, my long-arm quilter did not do the edge and it caused a pucker periodically.

Some years back APQS started taking names of folks that were interested in some in depth maintenance classes especially on the west coast, we signed up. My husband has done several set-ups for friends and repairs to my machine. He is a very talented technician and can fix anything! Nothing ever came to fruition even after I contacted them again and again. It was also brought back up on the forum as "whatever happened to that?"  No response. A couple years ago APQS  told me they were going to do a "Spa in the Box" for those of us who wished to give our own Spa Treatment. Once again.....nothing. I inquired again and received no response. I have a difficult time with the lack of follow through and communication. Say what you mean and mean what you say!

I agree wholeheartedly, Linda! Having lived in the middle of nowhere for many years, it was frustrating when having problems.  NOBODY wanted to come to Elko, Nevada. I thought it would be better once we moved to the Vegas area, but nope. I have considered taking the machine maintenance class just for my own sanity, but that's an expensive endeavor, too.

I wish APQS would train more field techs to come around and service our machines............not just routine maintenance, but troubleshooting problems...........a friend just spent MONTHS dealing with her 2014 demo machine trying to get it to work right.............no one would come to her house to check it out............kept trying to 'FIX IT' by email and phone calls with no results other than more frustration for her............she was finally forced to trade it off for a brand new machine - just to get something that works............she SERIOUSLY considered buying another brand.........APQS touts their great warranty and customer service, but it seems to be lacking..............many of us are not able to man handle a machine to pack it up and send it to Carroll.........when I got my new machine a year ago, they took the box back with them.   I dread the day when I might need help because it seems no one will come............with the number of machines that are sold every day and at all these Road Shows and Quilt Shows, APQS is falling down on their Customer Service after the machine is delivered.

Look what I got to quilt!  It's a pink themed Halloween quilt, to display at our local hospital during the month of October.  Pink because it's breast cancer awareness month.  The Jackson Hole Quilt Guild rotates a quilt display every month at our local hospital.  The nurses and patients really appreciate it.  We've had a hard time in years past trying to find a pink quilt for the October display.  So we had the bright idea to make a quilt just for that.  Different people made the applique blocks, others sewed them together with sashing and border.  I quilted it, and just handed it off to another member to attach the binding.  A terrific collaboration.
Last May I took a few classes from Judi Madsen in Salt Lake City.  I just LOVE her work.  So, you will see that she inspired this quilting.
The bat bra block is the one that really got me started with the quilt designs.  The lady who made it drew a spider in a web on the cleavage, so clever and so easy to quilt that design!
Judi had just posted an applique quilt that she'd finished that had bugs in it.  She gave the bugs motion by quilting a swirly design under them.  I thought the ghosts need that swirly design too.  Remember, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?!
I used a wool batting, glide thread with magna glide bobbins.  Love those magna glide bobbins!  Angela Huffman is a great source for them and her delivery is super fast.
    Thanks for looking!

LisaC reacted to lisae in Circle ruler, uneven results
I'm disappointed as well! It's not only the bump, but the front is narrower than the sides. As I recall, when we upgraded to the interchangeable feet, we were told the new standard foot was accurate. It has been a constant source of frustration when using rulers or templates. It is nearly impossible to get accurate crosshatching with the standard foot. It took me a while to figure out it was the foot causing the problem. I need to be able to do ACCURATE quilting with templates so I bought the new foot. BUT I feel like APQS should make it right for those of us who upgraded originally or at least give us a break on the new foot. Major failure, APQS.

Well I took the leap, the machine will be delivered on Monday. I'm really excited, but a little scared to. We won't be able to set it up until later, we will have to move my other machine out, and do some rearranging to make it fit the room. I think my husband is as excited as me, he was in the room figuring all the ways we could do it.
Anyway thank you all for helping me make this decision.

LisaC reacted to dlnewell in quilting different size borders
If the border fabric is the same as the background of the blocks, you could just do a meandering feather type of border.  You wouldn't have to necessarily mark anything.  If you're wanting a more formal look, how about scallops the width of the blocks.   They could be shallower on the narrow border and deeper on the wider.  Then feather the outer edge of them. You could straight line fill in the centers of the scallops.

LisaC reacted to SWall in Iris quilt
I had the privilege of quilting this beautiful applique Iris quilt for my neighbour/friend. It has a wonderful story behind it. She made the quilt top back in 1988 for her daughter and as young daughters go, didn't like it once Mom had almost finished the top. So, my friend put it in storage along with the rest of the fabric and backing. Now this summer, her mother is moving from her home to a new condo and my friend felt her mother needed a new quilt for her new home so she dug this out of storage and her mother loved it. She was ready to bring me the quilt and then realized the borders had never been put on so she needed to quickly do that as well and so fortunate that she had kept all the extra fabrics! I had SO much fun quilting this for them. AND another exciting note is that my friend is now eagerly awaiting her very own APQS Millie!! We are going to have so much fun sharing ideas and learning together!

This may not help you if you are buying a Mille and own a Lenni.
I have a Mille and my husband removed my thread cutter and my Hartley base still fits; however, he also created a small plastic insert to fill in the gap on top where the thread cutter cover mounted to the top; next to the throat plate. We left the housing in tact so the base would still fit.  I don't have a picture of my base on the machine as I loaned it to a friend with a new Mille to play with; but I have attached a couple pics anyway.

A recent finish for my great niece's 10th birthday.  I've had the fabric for quite a few years thinking it would make a pretty girls quilt and when my niece asked me to make her a quilt I knew what I wanted to use.  The pattern is called Zinnia Garden from American Patchwork & Quilting 2017 calendar.  My niece loved it and apparently her bedroom is being painted to go with it!

A client had me custom quilt her  "Thistle Pod" quilt top for her.  She entered it in our county fair and was awarded "Supreme Grand Champion". This entitles the quilt to represent our county at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show in Harrisburg.   The judge loved the quilting.

I have finally finished quilts for Landon and Scarlett.  Can you believe they are a year old already?   They are such good babies.   They both love their quilt and give them kisses and hugs all the time.  Lol.  Landon likes to pet his giraffe.   These quilted up really quickly.  My goal was to keep them soft and snuggley.
