I finished quilting Roger's Feathered Star, another Judy Neimeyer. I had a lot of fun with this one! Loving getting caught up on our own quilts....

I got this off the frame today. Yahhh. I designed this using motifs from a Judy Allen pattern pack. Color trapunto using a very bright pink. the border design is also Judy Allen. Still needs to be trimmed and bound. I think I need to name this one. Any suggestions?
This is my 1st attempt at posting pics on the new site. Hope it goes through. I have more pics, but they're on my Ipad and I haven't figured out to move them over yet.

I find I use the information in hands on classes more quickly at home then lectures. I like them both, but prefer hands on; it is how I learn the easiest.

I use a wooden TV tray next to me at my sewing machine. I have the turning cutting mat on it and use it all the time for trimming when sewing or paper piecing. I take it to quilt retreats also. Works great and portable. Saves me from jumping up and down to the cutting table. It could work as a small ironing surface also. May have to work on that.

As one newbie to another don't give up! Dec.the 23rd I wll have had my Millie for two years.I have only quilted five quilts and several practice pieces.
At first I was afraid of the machine feeling I would do something wrong and mess it up.Then had the mind set that not using it,it was messed up and not doing me any good.So what did I have to loose? Then the controll buttons keeping that in mind and getting that set in mind was a bit of a trick at first.
I like pantos as I like quick and easy but my dream is more free motion work.Feathers of any style is what I aim to be able do to one day.And with ppp and alot of drawing they sure look better than when I first started.Maybe to be on one of the many quilt top I have waiting to be quilted.
Shortly after I bought Millie I thought that I had lost my mind for such a purchase. But I'm glad I did as she is always there when I'm ready. And like so many others the problem I have when looking at quilt top is what design?Where do I start and thread color? But that really doesn't matter as I quilt for myself so no one will see or know my mistakes! And the quilts I have made as gifts were loved and they didn't see the mistakes. The one who recievies the quilt only sees it as a whole and knows it was made just for them and made wth love.
I'm hoping this new year I will be able to do more quilting and just maybe one day I will post pictures.Thank you all for your help and know how that you post.It helps more than you know.
    Wishing all a MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Well I did it...took the plunge. A former co-worker of mine called yesterday and asked if I'd like a couple of table runners to practice on. No pressure and I could do something easy...meandering or stippling or whatever. She didnt care if they weren't perfect. Of course she'd like them for Christmas gifts. I was ready to actually load a quilt of mine to start. I decided I would do it. It took me all afternoon to load the first one. I have one part done and feel pretty good about it. After a little break I am headed back down to continue. I kind of feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders and I've stepped out of my box and comfort zone. Whew! Thanks for all the encouraging words from all of you.

Thank you all so much for the encouragement. I guess I just need to be brave and go for it. I am getting bored on muslin. Haven't put a printed fabric on but think I may try that. I also ordered a preprinted panel to practice on. I think I need to draw some blocks on muslin and decide how to quilt them. I am going to MQX East so I can take some hands on classes. I am curious about all the gadgets and rulers quilters are using. I appreciate any and all advice and guidance I can get.

    hi everybody..
since baby boy went off to school, i have been making time to investigate all the things i have been fascinated by and never had the time to learn.
i am taking joen wolframs' craftsy class.
i have always gone with my gut when choosing fabrics for my quilts.
i threw caution to the wind and selected all these fabrics based on value!!
it was so much quicker this way and i'm happy with the results.
of course, you would have to chose the right pattern and i think this one was perfect for my experiment.
next up is choosing colors using the color wheel....
this will take some time but i hope it's worht the effort.
i'm really enjoying looking at my stash in a whole new way.
i'd recommend this class to anyone wanting a refresher on color theory.

    Ann,
Some threads blend so you see the piecing more. Others stand out where you want your gorgeous quilting to show. I've read that you shouldn't match a thread exactly to the color you're quilting, but go one shade lighter or darker, but can't remember who gave that advice.
We're lucky with the APQS machines because we can use any thread. I like to stay with Superior. They just started a new line of shiny thread called Magnifico. Some people prefer the Glide because you get more thread for the money. So really, you just have to try and see what you like best.
