Put on the new hopping foot today. Had to re-time the machine. Very frustrated because I had trouble locating all of the proper tools. Now, the hopping foot is too low to put the needle plate back on the machine. I have loosened the screw and pushed it up higher, but how do I know where to stop?

I cleaned my machine today--long overdue. Used the WD-40, and then oiled. Put a new needle in and it made a clicking noise. Have since changed the needle and the clicking noise is gone, but the machine has been loud. I was at a workshop this weekend, and it was suggested that I may need to grease the gear box underneath the machine. What type of grease do I use?? And, how do I go about this process?? Thanks. Laura
