InesR reacted to jimerickson in Thread stuck in hook race
Try cutting the thread, strand by strand, or as much as you can each time.  Pull each thread you cut out until the clog is removed.  Good luck.  Jim
PS: the last resort would be to remove the hook assembly from the machine.  If you do that, you'll have to re-time the machine after the clog is removed.  It's difficult to loosen the screws that hold the hook in place if you can't rotate the hook (turn the flywheel)  A lot of folks are afraid to do this, but if you're serious about long arm quilting, it's something you really should learn how to do.  One more step to mastering the trade.

Did a quilt for a friend, new backing was tight but thought I would make it… was tighter than I realized, but was able to add a length while still loaded.  Not pretty, but did the job.  Then able to complete the quilt.  Lucky to have dodged a bullet.  Attaching pictures, just in case anyone else lands in those murky waters. “)

InesR reacted to barbm in Is there an app that lets you upload pictures of quilt blocks and then rearrange them on a grid?
I haven't seen a software product to do this specifically, but I would do it the old-fashioned way - print out a photo of my squares, cut them up and move them around, kinda like a puzzle. Once they're in an arrangement that's appealing to me, take another photo, print it and start rearranging my blocks!

I had the same issue with the deluxe table.  You need to get the snappers behind the dead bar.  We had a couple of lengths of fabric about six inches wide the we would baste to the backer with our domestic machine.  Adding six inches to the top edge of the backer allows you to get the snappers behind the dead bar and if you load the top so you start just below the added strip you should have ample backer at the bottom of the quilt.  If you use a basting stitch it is easy to pull your strip off when you are done and the you can reuse next time they are needed.

    Hope this helps

I sew it the way they bring it to me.  That said, typically I pin the selvedge edges of the backing to the leaders so that I know the take-up leader, and the backing leader will be parallel.  That mostly avoids cutting flaws.  Jim

Sew Tweet, a  pattern by Chitter Chatter Designs. I hand appliqued and embroidered the blocks in 2014; along with completing the top. Finally this year, I free motion quilted it on my Mille. This was a very fun project began by me and Lisa E. in 2014.  It was my first attempt at embroidery; I was so blessed my Mother used to do all my embroidery, but she has since passed away. The blue birds remind of Cinderella birdies!!

A lot of quilters use a saddle stool. You can do a search on this forum for a lot of information on them and also search the internet or Amazon.com for them. There are some in most every price range. I definitely recommend one that is adjustable in height. I don't use mine often, but love it for doing detail work.

Funny how sometimes we don't get what we expect. Often it's even better! I like how the white wins out. Very nice work.

Sorry, you're right Cagey.  I use Heirloom, buy it by the roll.  The 96" comes in a 30 yd roll, and the 110" comes in a 25 yd roll.  I don't buy the single batts or the small yardage offerings.  Jim

My personal Dinner Plate Dahlia is off the long arm.  I don’t have a computer on my long arm so this was all hand guided.  I am thrilled with the finished quilt

Quick rail fence for a gift.  I stewed and stewed on the dark, really thought it would show the "rails"..., but no, the light won out.  The whole color/contrast thing still stumps/surprises me.  Stipple and machine binding.

Quickbooks.  It takes some work to set up the inventory items, but will make your life much easier at tax time.

It depends on what you want it for. I don't use it for my bookkeeping, and I gave up on using it for invoicing as it just didn't allow me to tweak the invoices the way I wanted. But I love it as a database to keep track of all my customers, their quilts, my threads and designs etc. I find it easier to use than making up my own spreadsheet and would purchase it again.

I got Millie in September and did two small quilts with a meander stitch. This one I went all out and did my first custom work with rulers and free motion. So thrilled with the turnout.
Each stripe has a different pattern( stripes, plaid, cross hatch, meander, loops). The first border is wishbones and the outer border is piano keys.

It looks great. Try taking photos of your fabrics lined up and then change the photo to black and white. It will show you how fabrics will blend or contrast. An old tool called a Ruby Beholder works the same. Its a deep red piece of plastic to look through; they were used alot when the watercolor quilts books came out in the 90's.The pics also help find stray blocks that might be turned wrong or in the case of a sampler, too many like colors together.
