A couple of things I found and remedied...

    1. the Hartley ruler base edges are square cut, so fairly sharp and can cause drag. So my husband gently sanded the edges for me to round them off a bit so they don’t “dig in” to the quilt as you move the machine.
    2. Around the machine’s needle plate there was a height/depth difference between the needle plate and the ruler base. In speaking with APQS about this, they provided small washers to insert under the plate to raise it and was able to match the height. It’s really only an issue when you use rulers I found as you press down on the quilt a bit when using a ruler a seam can catch in between the needle plate and the ruler base.
    Hope this helps!

    Hi Ines,
Thank you for the note. The shed is 14' wide and 28' long plus a 4' porch.     The floor is insulated underneath the plywood.   The top of floor is just painted.  The end walls are made with pallet wood.  We picked up the pallets for free, removed the top wood slats, I whitewashed them with a mixture of 1/2 white paint, 1/2 water.  I painted 2 coats of whitewashed then nailed them to the wall.  Really easy and a beautiful look.
I hope you get one.  It's so worth it.
    Thanks again,

Sounds like you've got your priorities straight.  I'd love to go to Idaho. I have family that transplanted there 30 years ago. They love it.
You have a nice, warm, and inviting studio to quilt.   I could use a move just to force me to go through all of my stuff.

    Hello all,
I relocated to Idaho and am in the process of building a home.  I could not wait until a house was built to start quilting so I had a shed built.  We finished the inside and this is now my very happy place.

Well Nigel,  you are my hero today.  It was actually the top pick up roller that was binding the ruler base.  I followed your instructions and raised up the top pick up and the leveler bar both (with a quilt on it) and it's seems to have made a huge improvement.  I need to quilt from edge to edge and front to back with a ruler to be confident but so far its smooth.  The stitches look nicer too.  Was this procedure in the manual somewhere that I missed?  I've been trying to fix this issue for two years now with a lot of frustration.    I can't believe it was that simple.  Thank you so much.  I greatly appreciate this support.

1030:  Pin on a piece of fabric the width of your leaders to the backer leader.  Then pin to the take up leader about 3" up on it.  Fold the leader over and pin it down, then using your horizontal channel lock, stitch along the leader edge to form the pocket.  Go through the same process for the other two leaders.  Pretty easy to do.  Good luck.  Jim

Jamie.bennett@hotmail.com reacted to Sheila S. in How do I add a quilt calculator to my website/blog?
I just use a spreadsheet and I have the cells formulates in them and all you have to do is put in the width and length and it gives you the cost.

We have made the decision to sell our home and 4 acres and move to town !    We are building an "older age friendly" home that will be all on one floor..........no steps (that we have to use), wide hallways, doorways, pull bars in the bathroom, etc.............neither of us are to that point yet, but after having my Mom out and in her wheelchair, we saw the writing on the wall...........We are both 68 and time is marching on way too fast............anyway, the BEST part is I will have a 17 ' x 30' Quilting Studio !     Everything will be in one big room with lots of storage, drawers, cabinets, cutting table, my long arm............I can't wait for that.............Been going up and down steps a lot late while sorting out closets and purging...........I will be SO GLAD to be rid of the steps............

We currently have a 120 acre farm, but will keep the farm ground and just sell off 4 acres, a couple buildings and the house............DH not quite ready to give it all up just yet, so we won't..........he can still come out and fish in the pond, putter, but he won't have 3 1/2 hours of mowing to do any more or 3 hours of pushing snow in the winter.    Our lot in town is a whopping 1/2 acre !   Looking forward to having more free time to do other things.........We like to travel, so having a smaller place in town will make it easier for someone to come over and check on things when we are gone............

This was a new customer who was given my name by a local quilt store.  She wanted me to quilt this they way she handquilts them with just circles.  Finally I told her I couldn't do it her way because it would be too much moving of the quilt back and forth which could cause ripping with the needle down.   She said she just doesn't like feathers, but the lady said to do what she wanted so I could go ahead.

I decided to just stipple the background because you couldn't really see the design with the "starry night" fabric, and I felt I could draw up that extra 3 inches along the way.

She added a 13 inch blue strip across the top.  The spikes were 21 inches long and I decided to just do two lines, one up and back to the 12th and the 6th block.  She ended up putting a normal binding on and the customer loved it.
