I posted a tutorial a few years ago.  I always stitch to the back first and then topstitch to the front....have done hundreds of quilts like this with my DSM.  Its quick, neat and easy.  I always use a 2.5 inch binding.

I think it's the million ways that are tripping me up. I never follow directions exactly (ahem, and I wonder why I encounter problems) I tend to put my twist on everything. By the time you put a twist on a million different ways, you have no idea where you are anymore!  I need to go through the methods again, one at at time and see how they work for me I guess. Maybe I'll hit on something this go round. I don't think I have tried the Wonder clips, maybe that would help me out. I could see where they would be better than pins. Thanks Connie.

I appreciate this information especially right now as I'm selling my 1st machine and other than cash was wondering what forms of payment I want to accept.  I know there have been problems with bogus cashiers checks in the past.

    Thanks, Kathy!
I just found this post and followed the link to your blog and your info and photos are awesome! I do a lot of photography and have wonderful equipment but photographing quilts just wasn't something I do... and that needs to change! I will start implementing your tips because you gave really good advice.

    Hi Linda,
Do you still sell these rulers? I looked on your website and I don't see them mentioned there...it is late so I might not be looking too carefully!
    Thanks!

Since I am currently in the middle of purchase transactions I thought to share what I am discovering as it may prove helpful to others on the forum that might want to buy or sell items and have them shipped. Please note that this is only based on my actual experiences.
There are a number of ways to pay and i am not covering them all as i dont have experience in any others i havent listed here. The best I have found so far, is to have the seller send a request for payment via Paypal or Paypal.me. Depending on the option selected,  there may or may not be a fee payable and, correspondingly, there may or may not be Paypal Purchase protection available to protect both parties. The best part of paying in this manner is that funds are transferred into the recipients' Paypal account immediately and both parties receive a confirmation of the payment having been made and received. The Seller can then transfer the funds into their own bank account if they wish at no extra cost. It also makes for quick and easy foreign payment transactions. No delays, no holds, no drama. Everybody is happy.
For Canadian to Canadian transactions, do an e-transfer. Quick and easy.
The absolute worst way is via wire and "cashiers check". I have done both and the banks tie up the process and the funds and this has caused frustrations and lack of trust between the parties which is sad when it just isn't necessary.
For a wire transfer, the seller has to provide banking details that, I am told, leave the seller's account vulnerable So it doesn't sound like a smart idea anyway. The Seller's bank can also put a hold on transfering the funds to the Seller.
For a cashiers check, you have to mail it out which creates a delay,.and I am now told that the seller's bank can choose to place a hold on depositing the money for ten days... even though the banks say they can be treated as cash and they are guaranteed checks that can't be cancelled. When I asked my Canadian bank for a cashiers check in US funds, they issued me a money order as being one and the same thing. I sent it out via Certified Mail to ensure safe delivery. Turned out that the receiving US bank does not recognize it as a guaranteed cashiers check and placed a hold on it for another ten days more. The money has already been withdrawn from my account but the seller's bank won't release the funds to the Seller yet. So the Seller won't ship the items either. I suspect that the same holds true for personal checks. It is a dissappointing experience.
As far as shipping is concerned, right now based on shipping charges i have been billed by Sellers, Fedex has the best rate available  in  USA to USA shipping. And the difference is significant when compared to the UPS fees I have been billed.
I hope that helps others out there who are looking to buy or sell. We all want our transactions to go smoothly.

    Mary,
I'm brand new to Longarm quilting and definitely have a lot to learn.
One thing is for sure.. APQS machines on a Bliss Frame move with your fingertips!  no effort is needed, in fact IF you GRAB your handles .. you will jerk it around.. anyway I did
I have a new Lucey on the Bliss frame and here is one thing that really messed with my smooth movement.. THE CORD
You can't believe the grief it caused and not knowing anything about Longarm quilting, I figured it was just me.
well.. once I realized it was the cord fighting me.. I tied up my Serge Protected Power cord under the center of the Pantograph table.. and the is where I then plug Lucey in.
at the back of the machine.. I made a nice small curl of cord  from the machine under the right handle and tie strapped it there and put 3 pieces of that self stick velco around those 2 cords.. then I made a big loop of cord.. just so that it does not touch the floor and I put one of those big rubberbands around the cord, so I could put one of those little s hooks in the rubberband.. and I hook that S hook in my belt loop .. now the cord can only pull on my waist and not on Lucey and that makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE.
If this didn't make sense to you.. I can attach a picture if your interested in seeing how I tied up my cord.
Also.. as said above.. when your following your Panto.. make sure you look ahead of the lazer light.. and tell yourself what your doing...  ie:  make a loop, do an s curve, arch to the left, arch to the right.. and so forth.. that really helps me.. but with your experience i'm sure you know all that..
just don't fight your cord and only use your fingertips.. Lenni will do the rest
    Have fun
    Rosemary

You may wish to do more free hand free motion quilting from the front of the machine so you can use all that muscle memory you stored when you used your previous machine.   That way you can get used to the feel and freedom and the lovely stitches Lenni and you can produce.

Sorry for your frustrations. Having worked in a bank years ago I know that a money order is not the same as a casher's check and I am sorry you were told that it was. With the advent of so much scamming going on, I don't think any type of printed check is looked on favorably by banks anymore. I agree that PayPal is definitely the way to go in today's society. I hope your future transactions go smoother for you.

It isn't as easy as I thought it would be to get pictures that showed the feathers! The quilting is all free motion and straight lines done with a ruler. None of the quilts have been squared up with steam.  The back of the flying geese quilt has been pieced and also has my daughter's name appliqued on the back. My sons' unruly triangle quilt has a one-piece backing.
These are the quilts I made for my youngest two children and are the 3rd and fourth quilts I have done on my Millie.

Now I understand better: you quilted your grandma's top  to donate it as a door prize for your family reunion! Got it!
I think that what you have done is amazingly beautiful and respectful of all her hard work and talent, and so generous to offer it to the rest of your family to win. It looks like it found a well deserving home where it will be appreciated and enjoyed. We can't ask more for any quilt!

David, before I got IQ, I used vinyl to audition designs.  I got a bracket to attach a pen, crayon, etc. on my machine (Circle Lord had them).  I laid the vinyl  on the quilt and drew out the design.  Love all the ideas and advice.

David, I have placed clear vinyl over the boards and traced pattern onto vinyl. Then I lay the vinyl over quilt top to audition different patterns. This sometimes helps when trying to decide between a couple designs. Hope this helps!
