I did a little experiment at a retreat doing some improv curved piecing. I was using scraps from a fellow retreater they were cast off from a judy niemeyer quilt so odd shaped triangles mostly. I made four main clusters of curved pieces then added the putty fabcic to pull the pieces together Once they were sewn together the face emerged. A pleasant surprise. I then quilted it with a contrasting 40 weight thread. This piece was juried into the Canadian NJS that is in Ottawa this week. I did not win a ribbon but I have my quilt hanging with some very impressive quilts. I do not do this kind of quilts and stretched myself artistically to make it. I am pleased with the overall project. This piece is 20" x 20"
This was created by Mike. This is the third art quilt she has asked me to quilt. The last one won viewer's choice at our quilt show. She picked up this morning and was pleased. Now she gets to add the rest her magic to it. Yep, she said I could share! 20180802_133216 by Dell Dunman, on Flickr 20180802_133223 by Dell Dunman, on Flickr
Good morning everybody I had an amazing time this week-end at our local show I have one picture to show you of my quilt that won our guild's Challenge this year. The challenge was Canada 150 years we were suppose to make something that reminded us of Canada. I wanted to create the Northern Lights, They are so beautiful in the Northern area so I added the Inukshuk to my small 20"x 20" piece. I call it Norther Magic This is one of the pieces that has been selected to go to Toronto in June. I hope you enjoy my piece.
My husband's aunt, Donalene Rasmussen, from San Diego, created this quilt in 2000. Dona was an artist; but she also created every type of quilt imaginable. She has quilts pictured in several publications and also was commissioned to make the Balboa Park Diamond Jubilee Quilt in 2000. Auntie Dona passed away a few years ago and the family gifted us with one of her fabulous quilts: "Where My Wild Friends Are". There are so many critters hiding in this quilt; it is a very fun "I Spy" quilt. There are some close up shots on my photostream!
