suzysewer
Hi, I am just getting started in quilting (have been sewing for a couple of years, and taken an introductory quilting class). I have rotary cutters and one large mat. I need help on what size of rulers I would need for quilting. I have a 6x12 ruler (without a lip on it) and an even larger one 6x50--somewhere around there..longer that 45" anyways--which DOES have a lip on it. What square rulers are the best size for general quilting, or should a buy a couple of different sizes? Any and all info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. artinfabric
I gather from you post you are talking about piecing and not machine quilting of the top. IF so, this is what I recommend to my student. you already have a good ruler for pieces from your stips the 6x 12 ruler. I also recommend a 6x24 inch ruler for cutting strips. a 9 1/2 x 9 1/2 inch square ruler for squaring up a blocks, maybe a smaller 6 1/2 x 6 1/2 inch square for squaring up smaller blocks and a 12 1/2 x 12 1/2 inch ruler for squaring up larger blocks. hope this helps.
