Boni
I have this one on the project wall. I've been studying and wondered what would be best. It does have a pattern, 9-Patch blocks, sashing with cornerstones, pianokey border, and a plain blue border all around. It is huge=92x104! It's so scrappy nothing is going to show well. I'm considering the Circle Lord version of a square spiral. Baptist Fans would look good too. I'm not a feather person, so that's out. I could do that nifty water panto that Carol posted this morning. Anybody want to pitch in and offer advice? Thanks <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/51026226@N00/2963343308/" title="Patty's Scrappy Quilt by Nuts and Bolts Quilting Company, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3051/2963343308_26067c1103.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="Patty's Scrappy Quilt" /></a>
quiltingnanny
Bonnie, do you have CL swirls ? That would be awesome on this scrappy. they give so much movement to squares. Glenda
Sheri Butler
With that much "squares" going on, stick with the baptist fans or circle anything! It just somehow makes those squarey quilts look very nice!
Boni
I can adapt most anything. I went to the CL website and saw their swirls. While I was there, I realized I've been calling the square spiral the wrong name. I meant to say Square Dance. It's a little wonky design that isn't really square--it's on point and the lines are not straight. See here: http://circlelordsquaredance.blogspot.com/ The swirls will add a bit of variety to all the straight lines I agree. Thanks
Sheri Butler
Eeeeew Boni, now that's very interesting! Give it a whirl! What do ya have to lose???????? Cuz, it sure looks good on the quilt they show it on. Thanks for the pic!
kennan100
Square Dance on point would be great! Or BF would soften the squares some, but then again, would you have to line up the squares with the fans? Hhmmmmmmmm....
VictoriaG
boni Something with a curve would bring good balance to the quilt. vg
Carolyn
Boni, I'm with Victoria on this: I, too, think you need 'curves' to counteract all the squares and SD doesn't give you any curves. The quilt is extremely scrappy, so you don't really need anything too intricate, just 'curvy.' Carolyn

Boni
I'm thinking Baptist Fan. It will look more traditional with the scrappy fabrics, you know that "old" feeling. The backing is a blue about the color of the outside border, with polka dots all over. The BF should show really well. I thought that a blue thread would bring out the blues in the fabrics. Anybody second that motion? Or should I use a neutral to mimic that "old" look? Thanks for your votes.
quiltmonkey
Bonnie, that scrappy is so HAPPY! I love happy scrappies. They are my favorite of all. Please show a picture when your finished.
Sandra Darlington
Like Shana, I too love "happy scrappies." I would do it with some kind of curves, rather than straight line designs. I like the CL Spirals or the Baptist Fan suggestions.
Deb2bie
How about a bright variegated thread? That would blend with all the squares and really make it sing I think.
Boni
IT'S FINISHED, in spite of the snaffoos and booboos. I think it's a handsome quilt, don't you? Clicking on the picture will take you to the album to see all the pictures. Thanks to everyone who gave me suggestions. I really appreciate the support. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/51026226@N00/2985091856/" title="Happy Scrappy by Nuts and Bolts Quilting Company, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3282/2985091856_ba2c01cf52.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Happy Scrappy" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/51026226@N00/2985091010/" title="Happy Scrappy by Nuts and Bolts Quilting Company, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3156/2985091010_1411551843.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Happy Scrappy" /></a>

Hollyrw
Bonnie, that Baptist Fan was perfect for this quilt. It gives just the right amount of movement with out competing with the scrappiness. I keep wanting to use mine more and more.

Boni
Bonnie Botts--I thought you knew me? It's Statler Stitcher computerized. AND I began in the Creative Studio and had to bail because I ran into a snaffoo! Finished it in Precision Stitch. Some day I'm going to master the CS. The fan design is by Deb Geissler. http://www.debrageissler.com/advanced_search_result.php?search_in_description=1&keywords=baptist+fan&x=0&y=0 There is a border that is flat on the bottom, and an E2E--that's what I used.
