VictoriaG
Which ruler(s) do you use all the time? For me it is the Itty Bitty (Off the Edge). Maybe it is because I am still learning, but I find that small size helps me stay on the seam line better. I am still looking for a nice curve ruler for feather stems. vg
Sheri Butler
Well, since I purchased Deloa's Appliguide, THAT's what's next to me at all times!
Kelly
Try Off the Edge for your vein ruler too. There are two waves that have been out for a while and a brand new deep wave that just came out for Houston Market and Festival. I'm sure between the three choices you could find something to fit your needs!! Kelly
LauraJ
Itty Bitty and The Key by Off the Edge. Love the Key - versatile. Have been using them extensively in the one I'm doing now.
PamelaA
I like the Itty Bitty too. I have small hands and it fits well in my hand. Now if I can just do better with the SID I'll be all set. Pamela
Quilting Heidi
My favorite is the Dainty Ditcher and I like Deloa's appliquide too. It is good for lots of different curves.
rcck00
The Itty Bitty and my circles from OTE. I am keeping them close by for the quilt I am working on now. The IB is great for ditching, it fits nicely in the hand, and it's short enough that I can stay on the "straight" seam lines that aren't always straight!! I use the circles to mark my curves for feathers. I find I get a smoother curve if I mark the curve with a blue water-soluble pen and then free-hand the actual stitching, rather than stitching around the circle ruler. I used to stitch around the ruler, but found that my stitching line wobbled, and the ruler would slip... this seems to work much better for me. quiltmonkey
I love love LOVE my Apple a Day (looks like an apple core) made by Sherry Rogers Harrison. Love that thing. Love it! It fits in my hand so nicely. Did I mention that I love that ruler?
QuiltsbyNini
Quick question (don't mean to hijack this thread...) is there a video somewhere to show HOW to use a ruler? I've wanted to get one, but frankly, I don't see how it could help me. I guess I'm just a visual learner and this one is not getting through my thick skull... quiltmonkey
Yes! I have found one on You Tube a week or so ago. In the search box, type in longarm quilting or ruler, quilting. Try several words in the search box. Tons of quilting info on You Tube.
Boni
I'm using the Gadget Girls neon green "Janet Lee's Favorite". It is about 10 inches by 3 inches and has quarter inch lines on all sides with a couple of diagonals on the ends. Great for SID. I just started using Linda Taylor's Applique Helper and am getting better going around applique. It has a scalloped edge on one side which could be handy for a little embelishment, and there is a cut out that makes it fit around the hopping foot. You hang on to the ruler instead of the machine handles. I can get really close and still see where I'm going.
DoryJM
I finished a quilt this weekend with TONS of SID (remind me NEVER to do a sampler quilt again) and I used the Itty Bitty exclusively. I have Deloa's appliguide, but I couldn't wrap my brain around how to use it on the applique--even though I SAW her use it. I need to practice with it a bit to get the feel. This is my second sampler and I SID'd the whole thing with monofilament, then went back and quilted all of each color before chaning threads. Still took me forever, but it looks so much nicer. Sandra Darlington
I use the Itty Bitty for SID. I have 3 other SID rulers, but the Itty Bitty is really the only one I use. Next I like Sherry's Apple a Day ruler. I also like the Gadget Girl's Ribbon ruler. I have other rulers that I bought, too, and I do use them from time to time, but my top three are the ones listed above.
meg_marsh
I love my little 'HandiQuilter" ruler for SID - Still not very good at SID but it is improving and this ruler seems to work best for me so far. It also has a nice rounded end that I have used for other things. I just got the Itty Bitty and am going to try it on my next quilt - again lots of SID. Now that I am spending some time at the front of the machine, I can't seem to get away from the SID so all this PPP will pay off:D
