witha'K'quilting
does it matter which side of the frame the advance is set up on? I am setting up the frame and need to level it...so it would be nice to know which side the power advance is going on. thanks
barbm
Kristina, All the Millies I've seen have the power advance motor on the right-hand side, as you are facing the free-hand (front) side of the head. The take-up roller has to fit into the motor assembly in a certain way, and to make it roll right, the power advance has to be on the right-hand side. Is that any help? And if you run into any other set-up issues, I'll be checking this post again in the morning. Hope you're all set up and running by then!
witha'K'quilting
thank you. that is what i was thinking. needed confirmation. was hoping maybe it was interchangable due to my room's layout.
kennan100
I have a question about the fabric advance. How does that work? Does the take up roller move and just drags the quilt with it? You'd have to take the brake off, too? What I'm thinking is, it would have to work that way in order to keep the tension right on the quilt? ffq-lar
You are correct, Kenna. It attaches with a bracket system to the back take-up roller and the foot pedal is used to advance. You do take off the clamp brake to use. You will see why it won't work on the left side--the motor spindle to engage the bracket sticks out to the left so if you tried to switch it to the other side, it would need to fit upside down. This is not possible since the plate to attach the motor to the frame is at the bottom of the motor. Clear as mud??! I bet you could have a local machinist/welder modify it for you, but so many parts would need to be altered, it may be cheaper to knock a hole in your wall instead!! John Mitchell
The drive will only fit on the Right side. John
barbm
It all depends on your point of view, and which way you're facing!:P:P I think it's safest to say that the fabric advance is on the same side of the machine as the thread path is on the head. How about that?
witha'K'quilting
Barb, we finished setting the machine up at 2am this morning. About 5 hours after starting. Went smoothly though. The machine and table fit nicely in my room and it is level in every direction imaginable. Thanks for the quick response last night when I was in the middle of setup. barbm
So glad to be a help, Kristina! And being a "nightowl" I'm sometimes checking the chat when everyone else has gone "beddy-bye." Feel free to share here whenever you have a problem - and definitely share your joys and projects! Welcome, Kristina!
kennan100
Oh! I was going to welcome you, too, Kristina! Then I got sidtracked when my mind just took off on the fabric advance question. Sorry, and welcome to the chat! Have fun with your new baby! John Mitchell
I have corrected my previous post. The drive will only go on the right side (from the front). I must have been asleep at the switch. I have installed over a hundred of them but I had a senior moment on the keyboard this time. John
