Has this ever happened to you?

Hi. Today I was so happy that I was going to have a little time to quilt...DS (2yo) was taking a nap, and other DS (5yo) is at school.

I go in and start to warm up the millie. I am very careful to unthread to a point so that thread won't get caught in the flywheel (did that one already...ONCE). I don't have the flywheel cover, but I do have rigged a cover out of a blister pack from a pen or something. Anyway, since I had a few minutes, I went and started a load of laundry. When I got back to mille (in less than 5 minutes), I realized that the thread I had carefully draped over the machine had somehow gone in the flywheel on the other side.

Well, an hour and a half later, I've finally unwound it all, and it's back together and ready to go. But now, the little guy is up, and we have to go pick up big brother in a few minutes.

Oh well, I'll get back to it later, after I cover up the other side too.

The thing that kept me going while getting out that insane amount of thread, was the thought of coming here to tell you all what an idiot I felt like!

I got thread caught up in the belts once. The spool was sitting on the table in the back and the end was draped over the side of the table on the cable. I was clueless until the machine wouldn't move. I tackled everything on the head of the machine and later found the thread compacted inside the cover of the end where the belt loops around a spindle. AND once I found a whole bunch wrapped around the axle of one of the wheels. I'm really careful now to keep all excess thread in the cabinet and not lying around on the table. I also clean and vacuum regularly---probably excessively by some standards. At least I haven't had the same problem since.

Hope you find the time again soon to continue your project!:)

Yikes, Tina--that's a lot of thread to dig out! Sorry for that, but thanks for sharing.

Remember if you cover both sides of the flywheel you won't be able to get to it if you need to bring up the needle by hand. I only use the flywheel when I am oiling--somewhere I was taught to oil the bobbin area with the needle up and then advance until the needle just enters the hole in the needleplate and oil the bobbin area at that point. Was that Dawn that advises that? I can't remember. Anyway, I do need to use the flywheel on occasion so I can't cover both sides unless the cover is easy-off/on. Just a thought.

Hope you are now back to quilting happily!

OK, LindaR, your post gave me just a blast from the past. My first Ultimate I did not have Single Stitch. I had to use the flywheel to go down and grab the bobbin thread and bring it up. I hated that....but I had some real strong thumbs. :D There was dancing in the streets when I found my second APQS Ultimate I had the Single Stitch feature. WooHoo.

By a show of hands, who has gotten thread caught in the flywheel. Yeah, there's a lot of us.

And Tina, now you are in the club. We're thinking of getting T-shirts made.:P

Nice pic, Linda C!!! I saw a lot of old pictures today. Went to my Aunt Jessie's funeral today and there were a lot of her and my mom. They were twins and died 35 days apart... how's that for the ultimate twin connection!!! My mom had been very ill for a long time but Aunt Jessie was a shock...altho' she really wasn't the same since mom died last month. I think Aunt Jessie died of a broken heart. Anyway, they had such nice pictures of the two as little girls, they were best friends.
