janeta
I somehow got a spot of machine grease on the backing of a customer quilt. It is a small spot but the backing is white:mad:! Does anyone know of a way to gently remove it or am I just stuck? If so I guess the customer will be getting a discount.:(
Quilting Heidi
Why don't you try one of those shout wipes to see if that would get it out. The other option is Carbona which works really good. Good luck.
Sherri
I've had this happen before - it's maddening! If it's just a teeny spot, try a dab of Dawn detergent/water mixture and gently rub the spot and rinse......if you're nervous about trying this on the quilt, then do a test. Take a little scrap of the backing, put a little smudge of the grease on it and then try the Dawn/water thing. See if it works - and if it doesn't, you'll know before you wet the quilt. Best of luck. Let us know what works for you.
janeta
Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, it is maddening! This is my first quilt from this customer and it is a Christmas gift as well!!! Double yikes. I'll let you know if anything works. Janet
June
SIMPLE GREEN works on grease. If it will take it off the side of your car, it will work on the quilt back. The girls at Curves swear by it to remove the grease on white sweat shirts when they accidentally get against a newly greased machine. Also good on white linen tablecloths....cranberry sauce and all that good stuff. June in Cincinnati
janeta
Thanks Ladies, The Dawn worked beautifully. I'll have to keep the Carbona and Simple Green on hand in case of future accidents. Hopefully I can be more watchful in the future and not get any spots on a customer top. Bonnie
Janet....glad it all came out well for you....but really no matter how careful we are this does happen, and its not easy to tell your customer no matter how many times it happens. I guess I mainly wanted you to know you aren't alone in this and I'm sure it will happen again to me.....
