MCramer
I have been working on a few Christmas gifts with embroidery, and ran out of regular stabilizer. I was wondering if anyone has used newspaper (blank) print as a stabilizer? If so, use more than one layer? How did it work? TIA Mary
quiltmonkey
Personally, I have not used it but have heard that people do and it works fine.
lindasewsit
I have used coffee filters. Just press them and they work great! Tears off really easily!! linda
roberta
I have used the paper sandwich sheets and they work great. One of my friends uses the paper dr.'s put on the table for an exam and that works great too. I have never heard of anyone using paper but I don't see why it wouldn't work. I would be careful if you are concerned about the ink rubbing off onto your fabric.
quiltmonkey
Hey Roberta, it's newsprint paper that hasn't been printed on yet. You can get ends of rolls by the bundle; many times for free or low cost. This might also be great paper to use to PPP drawing your quilting designs! Mrs.A
I ran out of stabilizer this weekend and tried using a piece of vellun (which I keep around for paper foundation piecing). It worked great and tore away easily. In the past I have also used a double layer of plain old white tissue paper. I think it really depends on what you are stitching. Give the newsprint a test! Quilting Heidi
I got sheets of butcher paper at Sams club and it works fantastic and lasts forever. I've used it for years.
roberta
Thanks Shana, I guess I missed the part that said blank, ha ha. I am going to have to get some of this, not only for PPP but for putting under my birds cage. Regular newspaper stains the floor sometimes.. I have just been using thick plastic but this sounds much easier to work with
Mirabelle
My daughter does a lot of machine embroidery and she often uses fusible pellon as stabiliser, don't know what you would call it over there but it is a very thin wadding. Great for cushions and bags as it gives a quilted look.
