love2qlt4u
This quilt is for my customers grandson, he is 20 years old. She wants custom on it . Nothing flowers or girl like. I'm at a total blank as to what to do. Any ideas out there? I'd love to hear them. The quilt is 94x103. Thanks,
smorris
Hi Barbara I'd do an Edge to Edge - Popcorn, Baptist fan, Boats, Spirals. sue in australia
dtreusch
How about SID the blades of each block, do a swirl in the middle of each block and then some type of swirly background? You could also SID each block, then do some concentric circles or pinched squares in the large white area between the blocks. Debbi
kimmiequilts
What if you make suns, have a different length of the rays radiating out to the edges with a small background fill in the white areas???? You could use a blue thread and just repeat the pattern in each 'spoke'.
juliagraves
I like the sun idea. I was thinking flames, so a sun with flaming rays in the circles would be cool. I like doing a geometric filler on guy quilts - lots of straight lines and odd angles , with a half circle thrown in here and there. Julia
kimmiequilts
Thanks Julia I was really having a senior moment last night and couldn't think of the word to describe what I meant, flames, that's the word! I've got a sore throat and stuffy nose today so I guess that's why my brain was so stuck!
Quilting Heidi
I'm thinking something line a saw blade to give it movement. The background you could do almost anything geometric to give it life.
JoAnnHoffman
Have you seen the Meandering magic book? Fern background would be manly in the white background area.
Kenna
Guy quilt? Custom? I see hubcaps and tire tread type fillers in the white background. SID the spokes and break that expanse up a little more with a couple of concentric circles about half way out from the center of each hub, and about a half inch apart. A tribal type spiky swirl in the hubs, and maybe dress up the cirles with a spiky circle. That buzz saw idea would be good there. Maybe it's because I was at the tire store last week and noticed all the different designs used as the tread on tires. Some of them look almost like the basketweave. That jagged ziz zag fill someone showed last week would do the same thing as tiretreads. (Gasp!) I think this quilt is talking to me!
love2qlt4u
The sun rays sounds fun, and geometric as a stipple -humm, saw blades, not sure how to do that, Tires and hub caps I never would have thought of that. But I did see wagon wheels. JoAnn I haven't seen the Meandering Magic book, I'll have to look for it Thanks for all the suggestions, please keep them coming. :D:D
love2qlt4u
Bringing this to the top, any more suggestions out there?
Sheri Butler
im 4 the geometric meander in the white. SID the whole circle, then put "close together rays" in the blue/white portion of the wheel. Spiral the center.
Quilting Heidi
What about spider web design?
njquiltergirl
Hi. I'm working on a similiar quilt and am stuck also. But, I can see something for yours. For a young guy, maybe he'd like concentric circles (like bull's-eyes) in the piecing and on-point-squares-in-squares in the plain areas created between the cirlces. You have to like template work, though! Then a small stippling between the left over spaces...maybe a little ziz-zaggy backgrounder fill would work. Good luck! Hollyrw
R&S Designs has a saw fan template board that comes in a couple of different sizes I think. http://www.rns-design.com/MidArmPage1.htm
love2qlt4u
Wow, that saw fan is pretty neat. I might try something like that.
