This last photo is one of the quilt backing (in this case, a practice piece of muslin) that's been zipped onto the Leader #1 and onto Leader #3. As you can see, the buckling of the zippers can be pretty much controlled, plus if you happen to stitch off your quilt top onto the leader just a bit, you still have some margin for error before hitting the zipper. You may have to take out a few stitches (know this from experience!) if you happen to stitch onto the ticking, but you won't throw the timing off on your machine.

Also, if you have to rip out stitches in your quilting, unzip from either the top or bottom end of the quilt--rip out what you need to, then zip back. It's much easier on your back!
