stabilizing the quilt ?

You can use the straight line pattern that comes with the CQ to baste down the sides as you are moving down the quilt. You can also use it to stitch the top and bottom down. However, I prefer to disconnect the Y cable to do the sides. I move the head to where I want it to stitch using the CQ and then manually baste. I usually disconnect both the X and Y cable to do the bottom (sometimes only X cable) and then use my channel lock. I find it easier for me to do it this way than set the length of the straight stitch pattern.

When I stitch the top of the quilt down to the batting, I always have the CQ disconnected and use my channel locks.

You need to find the way that you are most comfortable doing and just go with it. There is no right or wrong way to do this.

I don't know about anyone else, but I like to disconnect the cables too. It only takes a few second to disconnect anyways. The machine is easier to move this way and if I have to do anything else, then I can.. Regards, zeke.........
