melanieruth
I have a large quantity of very old pieced arcs for making a double wedding ring or snake path quilt. Not sure I want to take on the wedding ring, what other type of pattern would be good for these? Thanks!
ffq-lar
Hi melanieruth, Eleanor Burns promotes a technique of "piecing" a Double Wedding Ring. Using a single-sided fusible product, she layers the fusible with the glue side down onto the right side of the arcs. Then seams are sewn along both long sides. The arc is turned right side out and the seams are pushed and straightened with a bone folder or a bodkin. This flat arc is now ready to be fused to a plain block. The DWR pattern also uses a four patch to join the arcs and cover the raw ends. If you wanted to sew both ends closed before fusing, sew completely around the arc, cut a slit in the fusible for turning, and push the seams and corners out. Now the arc is finished on all sides and ready for whatever. After fusing, you can use your favorite technique to permanently sew the arcs down--hand stitching, buttonhole or blanket stitch on the DSM, or even stitched on the longarm. How fun to have some vintage pieces to play with!!
