Helen G
I am wondering if you charge a set up fee for doing table runners. I recently did one and it took me longer to set it up than to quilt it. Thanks for all your great advice and tips, I learn more from this forum on longarming than any where else. Nadia Wilson
Hi Helen, I have a minimum charge...$50...that covers it if someone wants me to quilt just a table runner....or what I suggest to my clients is that if they have 2 smaller items and they are okay with the same batt and backing, I work out a reasonable charge as I am only loading the back and batt one time, I quilt them freehand. ffq-lar
Hi Helen, As a lot of others who longarm, I have a minimum charge. This will make the customer think a bit before asking you to quilt the smaller items such as placemats/tablerunners and some baby quilts. If you figure your going rate per square inch on small stuff, you go backwards FAST! My minimum is $50. If you don't want to charge a minimum, a fairly standard set-up fee is $15. Let your customer know it is a better deal than instituting a minimum charge and covers your intake time, loading, and pick-up time.

Quilting Heidi
My minimum is also $50. I would do multiple pieces if they used the same backing and batting.
juliagraves
I have a minimum of $50 for quilting, plus a $25 design/set up fee. I will also take multiple smaller items on one back & batt, and charge as 1 item. Julia
Helen G
Thanks for your replies ladies, good advice, and you are so right Linda, just charging per square inch on those small items would make you go backwards pretty fast.
