Are you using a ruler to guide the hopping foot? There are a number of good rulers made especially for SID. I have the Itty Bitty and Megan Best's SID ruler. Both are small and easy to use without an extended base. I also have a larger one by Dawn Cavanaugh that I use with my larger base.

Just like on the DSM, I try to stitch as close to the seam without going over. It takes practice but it does get easier.

In class we added the extended base under the machine to give us more support, then used a ruler that's 1/4" thick to help guide the machine.

Be sure to add "grippies" under the ruler such as small dots of adhesive sandpaper, "Good Grip" cling vinyl from Omnigrid (for use under rotary cutting rulers) or other devices so the ruler doesn't slip.

Also try to hole the ruler on the side where your seams are NOT. If you press the ruler down on top of the seam allowances, it causes the top layer to shift and become more likely to be caught by the needle, or the stitching looks too far away.

Hope this helps!
