Since an Ultimate I does not have stitch regulation, you have to adjust the length of your stitched with machine movement and machine motor speed. There is an adjustable dial that sets the motor/needle speed. For short stitches move slowly, for longer stitches move faster.

This is a GREAT machine for beginners as it only has one button to deal with, the machine is either sewing or off. You have manual vertical channel lock, and with a light touch you will find the horizontal channel lock is not necessary.
