chickenscratch
I just finished watching Karen McTavish on Simply Quilts. Wow!! Her quilts are beautiful. She explained how to do the colored trapunto and the shadow trapunto. Then she showed how to do the McTavishing on her APQS Millenium. I have decided I MUST get a machine with a stitch regulator. Has anybody ever taken one of her classes? Or do any of you have her book, and is it good? Thanks, Teresa www.chickenscratchquilting.com
Guest LA
Hi Teresa, Yes! Karen's classes are the best! The APQS show room in Des Moines is hosting Karen in July, lots of hands on time. She is also coming to Corvallis, Oregon in August. Here is her schedule, hopefully you can connect with her~ http://www.designerquilts.com/teaching.html Have fun!! LindaB
Hi Teresa: I have taken Karen's class way back in '02, I hadn't been quilting a year yet, thought that I didn't have enough experience to be taking her class, was afraid I'd make a real fool of myself yada yada yada......I have to tell you I was so surprised at how much I learned from her, how encouraged I was as a result of her encouragement in class and her ability to inspire you.......I could go on and on, but what I am saying is ..... try your best to take a class from Karen, buy all her books.....You too can do all this!!! Happy Quilting,
GERRY
I just checked out Karen's web site, & It dosen't look like she will be at Innovations 2006, to bad I would have loved to have taken her class.
Guest LA
Hi Gerry, The closest you will find Karen this summer is Oregon! Plenty of hands on time in my show room with all the machines. You might want to drop Karen an E-mail too see if she ever has plans to teach at Innovations. I think that it was a lecture type of class, & not hands on at that show. jeri
Teresa, start with her book "Mastering the Art of McTavishing". It comes with a DVD that will get you started with her methods. Her newest book also comes with a DVD --it's on my wish list. jeri
quiltaholi_518
I took a whole cloth design class with her, and not only does she know what she's doing, but she is really an excellent teacher too. A little off the beaten path, not that that's a bad thing! I can't wait to find the time to put my wholecloth on the machine!!!

Shirl
I took her class 2 years ago and was so excited. I have some of her books and just drool over her work. Someday I will do a wholecloth! I found her to be an excellent teacher and a warm friendly person. She certainly does inspire... Buy her books. Learn how to do feathers her way--they are beautiful! Judi
Teresa - The book Jeri mentioned is great - wonderful DVD - just like having her in your home - some much fun! Jeanne - Duluth is so pretty that time of year too - and it is a great show! I took her class last Dec. in the Des Moines showroom. We had a lot of fun, she is a very exciting person and is full of ideas and energy. I do wish that there would have been more "one on one" time, lots of people there, really full classroom. chickenscratch
I ordered the new book Secrets of Elemental Quilting from Darlene, along with the pocket guides. They arrrived in the mail day before yesterday. I have already looked through them. I also ordered Mastering the Art of McTavishing off of Ebay. It was shipped MOnday and should get here Wednesday or so. I only have 4 weeks to practice before I go back to work full time. (School starts July 28th here).
