Toni123
Can we go back to this subject? How do you handle when the thread breaks? Do you bury your threads at this point or do the Dawn concep by retracting your stitches? Would love this problem to just go away.
thf
It depends on where I am on the quilt and the fabric pattern. Sometimes one just has to bury the threads to keep the start/stop from showing. If you are on a fabric with a pattern and the backing is also busy, the other method you mentioned works well. It will be interesting to see what others have to say with more experience/talent.
cjtinkle
I unpick my threads until I can pull up enough of the bobbin thread to tie it to the top thread, then I knot and bury.
Butterfly
I use Dawn's method. I hate, hate, hate, knotting and burrying. I've tried to like it, but just can't. Only every once in a while will I knot and burry after a thread break. I have to have a super good reason, and even then, I often don't do it. Life's too short to spend time doing something I hate to do. Jess
anniemueller
I pick it out back to a good place to restart, where a few overlapping stitches won't show. Then knot and bury. I like knot and bury because it looks so clean. It doesn't take me long to do.
KathyA
If I get a thread break I pull out the stitches til I can knot and bury in a good place. Then to re-start I do 3 small stitches. I only knot and bury if I've had thread breakage. I don't really trust the 'going over'. Too afraid it will unravel when the quilt is washed. I'm such a chicken.... PattyJo
I agree with Jess 100%. Life is way too short to do something that I hate. And tie and bury is not my thing...
Bonnie
And I do like CJ. So I guess it's whatever works for you.
