Stops and Starts

Recommended Posts

It depends on where I am on the quilt and the fabric pattern. Sometimes one just has to bury the threads to keep the start/stop from showing. If you are on a fabric with a pattern and the backing is also busy, the other method you mentioned works well.

It will be interesting to see what others have to say with more experience/talent.

I use Dawn's method. I hate, hate, hate, knotting and burrying. I've tried to like it, but just can't. Only every once in a while will I knot and burry after a thread break. I have to have a super good reason, and even then, I often don't do it. Life's too short to spend time doing something I hate to do.

If I get a thread break I pull out the stitches til I can knot and bury in a good place. Then to re-start I do 3 small stitches. I only knot and bury if I've had thread breakage. I don't really trust the 'going over'. Too afraid it will unravel when the quilt is washed. I'm such a chicken....
