jakrnsewing Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 I was wondering what weight thread most of you use when doing a lot of heavy feathering in a quilt..I have been on webshots looking at pics of some really amazing quilts with tons of feathering and I would think a very thin thread would be ideal but just don't know...thanks
Myrna Ficken Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 Jackie, I really like Superior threads. Highlight, rainbows or Bottom line. I put a lot of thread in a quilt and like a finer thread. Myrna
quiltaholi_518 Posted August 4, 2006 Report Posted August 4, 2006 I am a big "Fine Line" fan. I have it in almost all the colors. It is 50wt and has the look and feel of cotton without the trouble..................
JoAnnHoffman Posted August 4, 2006 Report Posted August 4, 2006 I love So Fine by Superior. You don't want thready feathers. When you do a lot of back tracking you want a fine thread. If you are doing a lot of heavy quilting you might want to have one layer of Hobbs 80/20 on the bottom and a layer of Hobbs polydown on top. That way you get the weight and the puff you want to show off the quilting. I have recently fallen in love with Soft and Bright needled polyester batting from Warm and Natural. I was looking for something thicker, something that was about 1 1/2 the thickness of Hobbs 80/20. It's all polyester but it looks like 80/20 batting. It's soft, dense, smooth and has weight. It's nice!!!!
Guest Linda S Posted August 5, 2006 Report Posted August 5, 2006 I use So Fine, Masterpiece, or Bottom Line. All by Superior. Nice thin threads. Linda
JudyL Posted August 5, 2006 Report Posted August 5, 2006 Cotton is still my favorite so Masterpiece is my current favorite for this type work.
Jess Posted August 6, 2006 Report Posted August 6, 2006 I use a variety of threads. But some of my favorites are Tex25 / 50wt So Fine by Superior Threads. I also like silk threads on a cone by YLI, Madiera 40wt Rayon, & Robinson-Anton Rayon & Poly. I also like Variations from YLI & Superior Threads' Bottom Line (for both top & bobbin).
