Joy
Just wanting information on metallic thread Do you like it ? Do you use it often? Do you have any problems with the tention and what size needle do you use with it Thanks for your help
quiltmonkey
I love it! You just have to play with various settings to get the tension right. With metallics, I tend to use a larger needle 4.0 or 4.5 and Sewer's Aid really helps slick up the thread so it goes through the needle easier. GrandmaLKB
I tried Metallic thread for the first time a couple days ago. It was a spool from Superior that I got as a "freebie" or sample or ?? Anyway, I used a 4.0 needle, loosen the tension some and ran Magna Glide Delight for the bobbin. Sewed out beautifully. I was just playing around on a practice piece, so haven't done a whole quilt with it yet. Since it was on a spool, I used the spool holder thingy and just let the spool spin freely, but not too fast. I'd like to try a cone now !
Quilting Heidi
I love Superior Metallics and don't usually have any problems with it. I use bottomline in the bobbin and a 4.0 needle. Like Shana said sewers aid can help if you are getting breakage.

Quilting Heidi
Joy, Sewers aid can be found at Joanns or most sewing stores. It is a thread lubricant. You can buy a bigger bottle at Kingsmen quilts.

MarieBrewer
I read somewhere to use mineral oil instead of sewer's aid. I did the other day and I'd say I got the same results. Anybody ever tried that?
grannyju
Is Sewer's Aid oily like mineral oil? Does either one of them get on your quilt when you use them? Or do they just evaporate? Julie 2007 Millenium
