AHuffman
One of my favorite customers asked me to quilt her Hanky Lady quilt based on the Bonnet Girls book. She used the book as inspiration but put her own tweak on each month. I used IQ for almost everything.
AHuffman
The outside border was a bit challenging because the handkercheifs are all different sizes so the spacing between them changed each time. I used a curved crosshatching motif and spaced them out by marking the outline of each handkerchief and placing the curved crosshatching swags perfectly. That meant each swag had to be stretched and manipulated to fit into the spacing available. Each corner was different so I used a flower in the corners. AHuffman
The sashings got a feathered curl and finial for the corners. The small dark green framing strips have a curly freehand loopy in them. That is the only freehand on this quilt except for the monofilament detailing I did on her applique. AHuffman
This is January. I traced around each lady using "new block">trace on quilt. Once I had that I converted it to pattern. Then I echoed that pattern one time with a spacing of .
AHuffman
After I had the echo, I used "new block"> mark on quilt to click in the boundaries of the block. This lady is Feb
AHuffman
The next step was to place a curved crosshatch background filler in the block. This lady is March
AHuffman
Finally I used the echoed pattern as a No Sew Zone in "New Block"> No Sew> Convert from pattern. That kept the curved crosshatching about 1/8" away from the ladies and gave a bit of a gutter for IQ to use around the ladies. MarieBrewer
It looks super!!! Great job w/IQ. Mine comes the 28th. I'm looking forward to fun.
AHuffman
The only thing left to do was create a clipping block so it could keep the curved crosshatching inside the block. In order to do that I went to "New Block"> "Clipping Block"> "Use existing block". Since I had used IQ to sample the boundaries of the block, the curved crosshatching could be dropped in safely.
