Possible to turn off the beeping when the SR is active?

Hi all,

My wife just bought a millenium and I'm the designated maintenance/techie for the machine. Is it possible to stop the incessant beeping when the stitch regulator is active? As soon as we hit the green button on the left stick, the yellow light blinks and it beeps constantly until we turn off the SR. I'm tempted to open the head and disable the beeper. I would think a few beeps and then blinking yellow light would be sufficient.

Thanks,

Justin

Have to LOL, sorry! I know what you mean. When I first got my machine I felt the same way as you! I am inclined to say "No", though I do not know for sure. The light blinking and beeping is a safety feature and in my opinion a very good one. I vaguely remember asking the same question to Mark or one of the guys at the factory back when. Believe the answer was no. It probably could be done but not advised. I suggest that you live with it awhile. I was very surprised that I acclimated to it relatively quick. I tune it out so totally now that I do not hear it at all! Hard to believe I know, but I really don't! Call the factory tomorrow if you can't live with it. You may get a better answer here as well. Good luck!

Hi Justin,

Cheryl is right. We could shut it off, but choose not to as it is a safety thing. I also agree..give it a chance. After you start to quilt, it becomes background noise. It is when you stop that we want you to hear it as you shouldn't reach to your bobbin or around your needle area with it beeping...we don't want you to get stabbed! It just lets you know to completely shut the machine off before doing anything as I stated above.

At a Sally Terry maintenance class, she said to "quiet" the chirp, open the top and find the small black box on top of the machine. Wrap this with black electrical tape as many times as needed to take the volume down. The chirp was distracting at first for me, but now I love it!! This may not be an APQS approved solution but it worked for her.

Thanks folks for the replies. I think we'll take the consensus advice and try to deal with it for now. I agree...once the machine is in motion, you can't hear it and you certainly don't want to be messing with the bobbin when its beeping! It doesn't bother me as much as it does my wife so we'll see how it goes. I like the idea of muting the sound somewhat with the electrical tape. It reminds me of wrapping duct tape over our kid's toys' speakers. :)

Thanks,

Justin

P.S. Thanks Cheryl for the website compliment. The biz is my wife's (Julianne) but I am the tech guy and possible future longarmer if she needs a hand. The website was really my one time making a decent looking site after many ugly sites in my past. :)
