happymountainmom
Question? What do you charge a customer to put the binding on a quilt if they ask you to finish it? I have a customer that has requested that I bind and finish her quilt and I'm not sure what to charge. I have heard prices like 4 cents an inch to 3 cents an inch. Mary Beth
I was going to charge $3.60 a yard, they provide the fabric. I would cut it, machine stitch to the front and then hand stitch to the back. I was hoping that was high and no one would want me to do it....I'm very slow....and it takes too much of my time. However, a lady that works at our local quilt store will do it for the same price and I don't have to mess with it, so I give the quilts to her and she finishes them for me for the same price I would have charged. I then pass that price on to the customer.
Bonnie
I charge $1.50 per linear foot (with provided fabric) which would be $4.50 per yard. With hand finishing on the back...I don't machine it down like some do. And if they only want me to attach it to the quilt I only charge half price. mountainmanda
My mother-in-law charges .27 cents per inch. But her work is well worth it. Some chustomers pay the cost, others opt out and do it themselves. Take Care Manda
mrsbishwit
I have been charging .10 per linear inch to machine stitch it to the top ($3.60 per yard) and .15 per linear inch to machine stitch it to the front and then hand stitch it to the back. But when I replace my brochureslater this month I will be increasing my prices to .15 for the front and .20 for the front and the back. I get a lot of request for binding service and even though attatching it to the front does take too long hand stitching it to the back does take alot of time. Stagecl
I charge $2.50 a linear foot for making, stitching on and handwhipping down. $1.50 a linear foot if the customer makes it and I stitch and handwhip down. It takes time...don't short yourself on the $$ end. Besides it is not my favorite thing to do...I prefer to quilt. Guest Linda S
If I have to make the binding, sew it on, and then hand-stitch it down, it's $.35 a linear inch. Expensive? YES! That way, I'm hoping they won't want me to do it! I'm in business to quilt, not hand stitch. However, I have had several people take me up on it. I put on a good movie and sit and stitch. Still, I'd rather be quilting! Linda

quiltaholi_518
I like to do it, so I don't charge an arm and a leg, but my time is still precious to me. I charge .10 per inch to prep and attach, and another .10 to stitch down by hand.............
