victoriasews
I have a Baltimore quilt where the applique blocks are separtated by flying geese. Suggestions on what to do with the geese? I'll do McTavishing around the applique flowers.
victoriasews
To clarify, the geese are in rows and the rows separate the blocks
chickenscratch
Boring old me would probably just SID around the geese, but what if you sort of curved the lines to make them look like they were flying. Sorry I can't describe it better; kind of like making half-a-heart (like Myrna calls it) along the straight edges of the triangles.
Myrna Ficken
If McTavishing around the applique them try a design the will make them stand apart from that. Depending on how large the geese are, maybe just outlining quarter inch inside the geese will be enough for a place for the eye to rest. Or leave around the outside of the geese and do the McTavishing again in the geese. That will help seperate the designs. Is that confusing? SherryRogers
You could do continuous curve quilting as well. I recently quilted some FG and chose to do straight lines. I guess it just depends how much time you are willing to spend on the quilting detail. Other options are the line dancing techniques from Diana Philips. victoriasews
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll go stare at the quilt awhile and try picturing all the ideas.
diane@bcq
Victoria, I just did a quilt with all kinds of flying geese and did them SID. It really made them pop. being the quilt in my case was made from 1880's reproductions and patterned from a quilt made in that same time period I felt that SID was the way to go. I kind of think that if this is a very traditional Baltimore album quilt it to should be SID. You need some straight line to contrast with the McTavishing you are doing. here is a pic of the quilt that I did.
