favorite designs over pieced piano keys

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have a favorite design to quilt over pieced piano keys?

I'm thinking of doing diamonds over the border on my current quilt. Looking for something geometric this time, but also curious about other designs.

Loved the recent post about favorite sashing designs;)

If the keys are at least two inches wide, any of Dianne Phillips line dancing designs work well. You can stitch the path on each side of the long seams only and travel in the ditch to the next seam, or stitch each side of the seam and a matching design at the short seam of the border. I usually stitch off the top and back on again at the edge because the spacing for the binding can be tricky--plus this design scheme can deal with extra fullness and not stitching down those edges gives the extra fabric someplace to go.

I hope that makes sense--I will look for a photo....

I haven't had one of these either, but I love Linda's suggestion for the line dancing on them, as it could be just as effective on stitched piano keys. It would really add a whole new dimention to them. I really like that idea.

This is a design from Cheryl Anne over at MQR. I really like how this looks. It is done in 2 passes ... start at side center, move to top, then down to the other side center, then back up to the top. When you get to the end of the row, stitch the bottom half on the way back to the beginning.
