Use a 4.0 needle for best results. The MR designation on the needles from APQS stands for "multi-directional". If the needle is too small for the thread (e.g. King Tut and other cotton threads pull harder) then the needle flexes too much to meet the hook with each rotation. Other reasons for skipped stitches include moving too fast, having the quilt too tight, having the stitch length too long for your particular thread, and even the batting thickness.
