Gail O
My machine has always had an issue with the needle vibrating loose. Put in a new screw, tried either side, no difference; so I've learned to make sure it's tight after every couple of starts and stops. I guess today, I didn't check often enough. Now I have a broken needle jammed in front of the bobbin. I managed to get the bobbin case out. I can't get the bobbin out, can't get the end of the needle out from either direction, and can't raise the foot. Any ideas? Does this mean I'm going to have to learn how to retime? Any and all suggestions welcome. g
PattyJo
Oh, Gail, I'm so sorry that this happened. I'm not really any help on this, but you might try some needle nose pliers to get the needle out of the bobbin with. I'll be watching to see how this comes out cause you never know, it could be me next!!! Hang in there.
quiltmonkey
Gail, to "tighten" are you using a long screwdriver or a short screwdriver? Do not use a short one. The longer screwdrivers have more torque to tighten down... always use a long one.
witha'K'quilting
Try using plyers to remove the needle from the topside of the quilt. It may be broke off longer than you think. I will guess that the timing will be fine once tge needle is out. Can you turn the flywheel a bit by hand? Just be careful to not year the quilt as you remove the broken needle. Quilting Heidi
You might have to work that fly wheel back and forth to get the jam unjammed. Crossing my fingers you don't have to retime but it can be done! I'm sure you'll probably have a burr so make sure you check for it. As for your needle vibrating loose I'm not sure what would cause that. Maybe give Amy a call.
Gail O
Thank you all but . . . . Patty Jo - can't get a needle nose in either end - just the tip of the needle is protruding past the edge of the bobbin, and the broken edge of the needle is sticking up just enough to make a nice long rip in the backing, but not enough to grab. Tried some jewellers (sp?) pliers cuz I could get them between the hopping foot and needle plate, but that didn't work. Shana - medium long screwdriver. Kristina - backing torn, but luckily it was just a table runner and place mats for me Heidi - can't move the flywheel at all. Is it too early for wine? (or whine?) Thanks g:(
Quilting Heidi
Gail, I'm sure it won't move but maybe if you keep trying each direction you can start to get it to move. You just need enough to get that hopping foot up a little so that you can take the base plate off and work on it. It sure sounds like it is stuck good so whine and chocolate are highly recommended. Primitive1
I would also check with Amy as it should not be comming loose so often.....
Guest Linda S
I suggest thoroughly cleaning the screw driver with rubbing alcohol. Then skewer a couple of olives with it and soak them in some fine vodka and ice. Sip liberally. Sorry! Couldn't resist. I hope you manage to get it unstuck and running well soon. Gail O
Finally got the needle out - had to push up on the hopping foot with a flat screwdriver, until I could get the needle plate out. Just need one more bit of help. In front and above the hook assembly, there is a small black plate with a small finger that points toward the bobbin area. This small finger has a little bend in the end. Does the bend point up or down. Can't find it described anywhere in the manual and I have no idea which way it was pointing when I took it out. Thank you so much. g:D
Darlene Epp
Hi Gail, The finger points up. I learned that the hard way MANY years ago.
Gail O
Thank you Darlene! I'd done enough damage today, I thought I better leave well enough alone until I was sure. On the bright side, burned off some frustration cleaning house. Thanks again to all g
BethDurand
Hi Gail, I feel your pain. I did the same thing several years ago. I now keep my destroyed bobbin as as reminder to always use the long handled screw driver for tightening my needle set screw. Enjoy your clean house.
