Busy Quilting
Ohhh I remember an encounter with them in the Shennandoah National Park. Climbing all over our tent! Here is an afternoon photo from my Laundry. Lyn

njquiltergirl
First the mom came down the hill looking for food, sniffing all the way. Then the babies came bumbling down the hill. The mom looked around for a while. The little ones climbed our tree, then they all went back up. When the babies sat in the tall grass, all you could see were their big, round ears! The mom stood up to check out the hummingbird feeder and you could see her full with milk. We think this is the same mom who had 2 cubs last year. We had no fear - we were inside with our cameras. quiltmonkey
Nice pics of those black bears. Be super careful around mama and cubs wandering about... I am not sure I would let my kids outside unsupervised. Hopefully she moves off back into the woods far away from humans and homes. She might be back so keep an eye out for her. I was up on the North Slope earlier this week and saw hundreds of caribou (with babies) and a herd of musk ox, too, and lots of arctic tern flying around. I ran over a parka squirrel. Lots of them, too. Sorry!! It ran right out into the middle of the road; can't stop when I'm driving 50 mph. Well, I don't have any fascinating front yard wilderness photos to share. Our summer has been very dry so the wild flowers are not abundant. Today it is 85 degrees out. Nice summer day! Here are some pictures taken today in front of my house. Some wildflowers and the only wild animals I saw today are my shepherds. Oh and the neighbor across the street has bison in the pasture. They were feeding on a tree right next to the fence so I got a good close look as I pulled in my house.

I know a lot of people think I live in a desolate godforsaken land inside an igloo and it's blizzard and snow year round.
Beachside Quilter
Great timing for this post; my DH and I were swimming in the pool this afternoon and a huge Osprey swooped over us and into the canal behind our house. He came back up and landed on our dock piling with "catch of the day" in his talons. He patiently held on to it until it stopped twitching, then had his dinner. Guest Linda S
Wow! Nice pics ladies. I'd take a pic of my back yard, but the niece has not been over to mow yet. I'm afraid it's a bit too disheveled.

jeri
Used to live in Jersey with black bears, lots of deer, and an occasional mountain lion. People still don't believe me --30 years later. They think of all of it being a suburb of NYC with nothing but city. My wildlife is squirrels and rabbits this time of year. In the winter I get lots of deer as my backyard ajoins a large park. Busy Quilting
Taken from my Kitchen Window two weeks ago, while preparing breakfast. We live on 3/4 acre, and there is still a street to be built behind us, so the neighbours seem to be far away. Lyn
Sandra Darlington
The wildlife in Philadelphia has 2 legs. Sorry, couldn't resist. We have birds and squirels. We also have lots of deer because I live near a very large city park. In fact, we have the deer shooters during the night to thin the herd in the park. The meat is given to the food bank for the shelters. The park is beautiful with a stream running through it. But, unfortunately it is not a safe place to be as we have the urban problems - rapes, murders, muggings.
sharni
I have heard that Alaska is beautiful. I would love to cruise the inside passage sometime including the train trip that goes in to Danali. We have friends that went and saw lots of wildlife. Any gold left up there to pan? Stagecl
Here is a sunset picture from my backyard. I have lots of deer, groundhogs and 2 red foxes (that live across the street). I have also seen a coyote cross the street in front of me by 100 ft. The pictures are wonderful to look at. I don't know if I would want bears in my yard.
