BethDurand Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 I've got a DWR quilt to bind, and need to tell my customer how much fabric to purchase. Since it has rounded edges and everything, the binding will need to be cut on the bias, but how do I figure out how much to purchase? The quilt top measures 66"X80". I believe that my fabric calculator is telling my 5/8ths yard for binding (the screen is damaged after I dropped it on the cement floor) Thanks for you help!
dmilner Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 I did a quick calculation and you would need about 18" for regular binding based on 2 1/2" wide. If you are cutting it on the bias I would probably suggest 1 yard minimum which will allow you to use the longest pieces possible with the fewest amounts of joins. This is just what I would do. Donna.
quiltmonkey Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Beth, check out the You Tube video (first one in this link) it's cool! I've used this technique and it's great! http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=how+to+make+bias+binding&aq=f&aqi=g6g-v2&aql=&oq=
nineva Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 Beth the videos are really good but I am in the pickle that no one tells how much binding or how to calculate for the curves. Googled it every which way. I don't have an answer for you but if you get one, please share it. I have to get my quilt finished!!!
JudyLynn Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 I have a chart that tells how much to make, and according to it, for 340 inches of 2 1/2 ince bias binding, use a 32 inch square.. I like my bindings folded in half, if I can. If you want it a narrower binding, let me know and I will check the chart. Judy
BethDurand Posted August 16, 2011 Author Report Posted August 16, 2011 Judy, Where did you find this chart? Thanks for your help.
Primitive1 Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 Check this link out....it is great! http://www.needlepointers.com/ShowArticles.aspx?NavID=1009 It has a chart for almost everything quilting!
