Hollyrw
I'm getting ready to start a customer quilt that will require a lot of SID as well as some freehand work. I have a real pretty varigated thread for the freehand work but was wondering if I should use it on the SID or go with a solid thread like So Fine or Bottom Line so that the SID won't be seen too much? dtreusch
Hi Holly. In my mind, SID should not be seen and I've always been told that the thread for SID should be invisible or match the fabric. I do all of my SID with So Fine or Bottom Line. I have some invisible thread but haven't used it yet for any SID work. Debbi
Bonnie
Holly, Again I think this is a personal thing...I have used tons of Varigated threads in my SID....and it looks great and the customers loved it....I have also used Metallics and that is great as well. Try it and see if it works...if it doesn't take it out.'
jeri
I have recently used variegateds for SID in a couple of quilts. They were colors that blended with the fabrics and any solid I auditioned seemed to stand out in one area or another. The 30 wt Sulky blendables that I used have a short span for color changes and were just perfect and kept the SID from being real obvious. I usually use a 50 or 60 wt cotton solid that disappears well. jeri
