LadyLake
Here is my next customer quilt. It is a wedding gift to her son and daughter-in-law, who picked out the green fabric with orange feathers in the star centers. Has anyone quilted one of these before, and if so, what did you do? I'm a bit stumped on how to deal with the odd-shaped areas around the smaller stars in the corners. Any ideas that anyone has would be appreciated. I would like to do medium custom on this -- make it look nice, but not heirloom. Thanks!

Quilting Heidi
I would just do a peacock feather or swirly meander in that background, cc the triangles an stars and do cross hatcing or curved cross hatching in the centers. LadyLake
Thank you, Heidi. I knew that you'd know what to do. I love peacock feathers. Now on the curved crosshatch in the star centers, should I start at the bottom and work up, then start at the side and work over? Or, should I do some other way? Quilting Heidi
Joan, I would start at the corner and work toward the other corner and then repeat going the other direction. Does that make sense? If you are using Deloa's boomerang you can easily line it up by marking the diagonal of the square and use the lines on Deloa's ruler. GrandmaLKB
A friend made this pattern, but she doesn't do any custom quilting..........just a meander over it all. Hers was done in darker Thimbleberries fabrics. Beautiful quilt. She got very tired of making all those "star" blocks.
LadyLake
The quilt is done! Thank you to Heidi, for her quilting suggestions. Here is a photo of the center medallion in morning sunlight. I found out that 1/2" crosshatch is much more forgiving and easier to do than 1/4". LadyLake
I tried doing big feathers over the log cabin, but don't have that down yet, so instead did the size my hands are comfortable with, and then branched out to fill in. I used matching thread as much as possible.
LadyLake
Threads -- I used King Tut #910 'Bulrushes', which is a really nice combination of yellow greens; two kinds of Bottom Line (only one showing in photo) -- #620 Cream and #613 Sage; and, Aurifil 40 weight 'Variegated Red', which is actually a coral orange color. LadyLake
This is my new foster dog, Bailey, who has settled in pretty well after only 3 days. She knows enough to keep her toes off the quilt top.
LadyLake
Bailey asked if she could have her photo taken on the angel quilt, since she is my new foster dog-ter.
