gypsyquilter
hi all, a very new long arm owner here. seems every hime i get to the very row or two of a quilt, I end up with puckers in the lower right hand corner (when looking at the quilt from the front of the machine). any thoughts on why this happens or how to avoid this? right now I am doing mostly pantos from the back of the machine, so it is hard to see. I am wondering if I am stretching the top too tight, or if it is just not centered or square. any advice would be helpful. thank you! christine
LadyLake
That happens to everybody, so don't feel alone. When I get to the last 12 to 18 inches of the quilt, I unpin it from the leader and then straighten it out the way I want it, then pin baste the edges down, then quilt baste the edges down. P.S. Welcome, Christine!!!
Primitive1
That is why I float mine, you can keep smoothing and repinning and if it is really giving you problems, you can use that spray basting spray to help tame it.
Quilting Heidi
Are you sure your hopping foot isn't too low and pushing the fabric to the right? Also make sure that you have the quilt loaded so that the top and backer are centered. When I get to the end of the quilt I undo the top from the top bar, square it up and baste it in place. I do the same. Works for both well behaved tops and the wilder ones too.
Janice
Thank you so much for answering this problem. I thought I was the only one having a problem with the last foot or so of the quilt. I was on my way to check on how I can make sure the end of the quilt is nice and square. quiltingkimmy
Hi & welcome! I'm a relatively new longarm owner too - My quilt tops were way too tight at the beginning and I was getting puckers too. I went to a panto class and was shocked at how loose the quilt was (you probably could have bounced a quarter off the top of mine in the beginning ) My instructor said you should be able to see the machine moving under the quilt - what a difference!
