Has anyone ever used a variegated thread in a bobbin before? If so what thread did you use and were you able to get it in a prewound bobbin? I am making a quilt for a fundraiser for my daughter's project graduation and the backing will be a black and gold stripe so I am thinking of using a variegated black and gold thread if I can find it for the bobbin.

Any suggestions.

Mary

If you are using variegated on top, you need the color exchange to run the same both top and bottom. When you wind your bobbin directly off the cone, the color exchange on the bobbin becomes reversed - that is, the color exchange will now be coming off the bobbin in the reverse order from the cone. But if you take the time to wind the bobbin a second time onto another bobbin, the color exchange will be the same for both the bobbin and top.
